NUTRITION IN HYPERTENSION DISEASE

Hypertension is the most common cardiovascular disease in the world. While the incidence of hypertension increases with age, the risk is higher after the age of 50.

High blood pressure (hypertension) means systolic blood pressure >140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure

>90 mmHg. In other words, systolic blood pressure is >14 and diastolic blood pressure is >9

.

In the treatment of hypertension, antihypertensive drugs, physical activity and diet are used together

good results are provided. Quitting smoking or alcohol, losing weight in overweight or obese individuals, and reducing salt consumption provide a significant positive effect in the treatment. In obese individuals, a 5-10% reduction in weight provides a significant decrease in blood pressure.

Beyond the patient's compliance with treatment, important factors such as diabetes, metabolic syndrome, advanced age, and renal failure, which often accompany hypertension, make treatment difficult and increase complications.
