There has been a lot of news in recent years about coffee, namely caffeine, causing cellulite. First of all, let's talk about what "cellulite" actually is. Cellulite, namely hydrolipodystrophy, is a connective tissue disorder that can cause local edema as a result of the subcutaneous fat tissue growing and expanding for various reasons and pressing on the connective tissue. There may be many reasons such as genetic predisposition, circulatory disorder, connective tissue weakness, unbalanced nutrition, inactivity. Nutrition is the key factor here, as the basis of formation is the expansion of adipose tissue. Generally, sugar/sweetened beverages/foods create the cellulite problem, as excessive energy intake will result in fat tissue enlargement.
The reason caffeine is wrongly associated with cellulite is because of the sources we get caffeine from. Coffee is not the only source. Cola, sugar/cream coffees, chocolate, etc. Caffeine is also found in products, and in fact, the main cause of cellulite is sugar, not caffeine. The mistake in studies supporting this misconceived caffeine-cellulite relationship is the mediatic approach that generalizes with caffeine intake but does not question the source of caffeine. The bottom line is that caffeine is innocent.
Caffeine has no harm such as cellulite formation/disruption of connective tissue, on the contrary, caffeine has many benefits in the weight loss process, of course when consumed in a controlled manner. Caffeine is a nervous system stimulant. After consumption, it creates a "fight or flight" response by secreting substances called catecholamines in the body. On the other hand, catecholamines try to attack the adipose tissue and obtain fuel. But if you add sugar to your coffee, insulin will be secreted in response to the sugar, which will work to increase fat storage.
The World Health Organization (WHO) states that 300-400 mg of caffeine intake per day is normal in individuals who do not have a health problem that requires otherwise. These caffeine rates are roughly equivalent to 3-4 cups of coffee or 5-6 cups of tea. I wish you good coffee enjoyment, provided that you do not exceed the recommended amounts.
