Dr. Bakır said, “Since fasting for more than 15 hours and consuming too much food at iftar puts a serious burden on the stomach and heart, our advice to those who are fasting is to start the meal with a light soup. If an iftar menu consisting of low-fat, light meals is eaten slowly, the metabolism will not be strained. It is recommended to take a break from eating and eat small amounts of food until sahur. Heart patients can also fast, provided that they are under the supervision of a doctor. The number of smokers in Turkey is more than 15 million. The fasting period exceeding 15 hours during Ramadan is a great opportunity for those who want to quit smoking. A person who is patient without smoking during just one iftar meal has crossed the psychological threshold of addiction. “The following days will be easier,” he said.
“THE HADITH 'FAST AND FIND HEALTH' IS A SCIENTIFIC FACT”
Prof. pointed out that the saying 'Fast and stay healthy', which adorns the ridges of mosques during Ramadan, represents a scientific reality. Dr. İhsan Bakır, “Fasting by healthy individuals is medically beneficial to the body. Fasting balances blood fats and increases the level of good cholesterol. Fasting is also very beneficial in terms of relaxing the metabolism. But fasting even if you have a health problem may cause more harm than good,” he said. p>
Prof recommends that those who have the opportunity to take a nap during Ramadan. Dr. İhsan Bakır said, “The risk of having a heart attack indirectly decreases for those who take a nap while fasting. Even in healthy people, problems such as irregularities in blood pressure and heart rhythm, fainting and low blood sugar may occur due to the body's loss of fluid and salt on hot and long days. For this reason, it is useful to sleep for an hour during the day during these long days. "During Ramadan, this sleep is of great importance in preventing the body from losing water and electrolytes, making fasting easier," he said.
