Generally, the stitches placed in the surgery area are removed after a week. It is normal to feel slightly dizzy and a feeling of fullness in the ear after ear surgery. It is important to know that hearing will not improve until recovery is complete. Most of the time, it takes a few months for hearing to become fully established. For this reason, we have postoperative hearing tests performed during this period. However, it is important to know whether the inner ear is affected by the operation performed immediately after the surgery. Hearing loss that may occur if the inner ear is damaged during surgery must be diagnosed early. It may not be possible to correct the loss after time passes. Tuning forks are used for this purpose.
It is normal for the dressing to become slightly dirty and pink after the surgery. However, in case of persistent bleeding and excessive contamination of the dressing, patients should contact their physicians. At the end of the surgery, different tampons are used to control bleeding and stabilize the area. The removal times for these tampons vary depending on the physician. There is no pain during tampon removal. It may be recommended to use ear drops after removing the tampon.

We follow up our patients after the surgery at regular intervals. Contact with water can be achieved by ensuring that the incision areas and the skin of the inner part of the ear properly cover the eardrum. This process generally takes 45-60 days. Until this stage, the ear should be protected from water. We sometimes perform extensive surgeries in the presence of a bone-depleting disease called cholesteatoma. In such cases, it may be necessary to take lifelong precautions to protect the ear. Swimming also depends on meeting the same conditions.
In cases of dense and foul-smelling discharge from the ear after the surgery, gradually increasing tinnitus, weakness and asymmetry in facial movements, severe dizziness and fever, a hospital should be consulted without delay and a doctor should be contacted. .
