Nutrition in Autism

Gastrointestinal problems may be observed in some children diagnosed with autism. In these children, due to increased intestinal permeability, called leaky gut disease, some nutrients that mix with the blood have an opium effect on the brain, causing symptoms of autism and changes in the brain. It is said to increase drowsiness. According to this theory, symptoms can be controlled when gluten-containing foods and dairy products are removed from the diet. While many studies confirm this, some studies claim the opposite.

1. GFCFSF DIET (gluten, soy and casein-free diet) SHOULD BE APPLIED

Most autistic people do not have the necessary enzymes to break down the proteins they get from many foods, especially milk, soy and wheat. This means that undigested large molecule proteins reach the intestines with impaired permeability. In many cases of constipation, diarrhea and behavioral disorders, the removal of gluten, soy and casein from the diet has provided significant improvements.

2. A DIET RICH IN PROBIOTICS SHOULD BE APPLIED

Probiotic; They are beneficial microorganisms that positively affect human health when eaten in sufficient quantities. Foods used for digestive system health and containing sufficient amounts of these probiotic bacteria are called probiotic foods. There are trillions of microorganisms in the intestinal flora of a healthy person. 85% of these are beneficial, that is, probiotic bacteria. Normally, intestinal cells do not allow undigested food and toxic substances to pass into the blood. So it creates a firewall. Probiotic bacteria are the main soldiers holding this firewall. If harmful bacteria outnumber beneficial bacteria, permeability begins to deteriorate. The balance in the intestinal flora of autistic people is disrupted. The number of probiotics has decreased significantly. For this reason, they should consume regular probiotic foods every day. Fermented dairy products are the best sources of probiotics.

3. A DIET RICH IN PREBIOTICS SHOULD BE APPLIED

Prebiotics; It is a human health food that reaches the large intestine without being absorbed in the body through the digestive system, where it ensures the proliferation of probiotic bacteria and stimulates their activity. They are nutritional fibers that positively affect health. The most suitable prebiotic foods for autistics are; oats, vegetables and fruits. The amount of fiber in their diet should be 25-35 g / day.

THE MOST IMPORTANT PROBIOTIC & PREBIOTIC SOURCE FOODS FOR AUTISTICS:

4. A DIET FREE OF HEAVY METALS AND TOXINS SHOULD BE APPLIED

5. STIMULANTS ARE PROHIBITED

Consumption of caffeine, sweeteners, food dyes, colored confectionery, nitrite, sulfites and preservatives is harmful.

6. REFINED CARBOHYDRATES SHOULD NOT BE USED

A diet low in flour and sugar should be followed. Consumption of ready-made fruit juices, sugar and sugary foods should be limited. Fungal infections are very common in autistic people. The reproduction rate of fungi increases 200 times in a sugary environment.

7. A DIET RICH IN ANTIOXIDANTS SHOULD BE APPLIED

Antioxidants are soldiers that strengthen the immune system and defend the body against free radicals. People with autism should consume plenty of antioxidant nutrients every day to strengthen their weakened immune system. should be given. Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Selenium, Zinc and Omega 3 are food groups that stand out with their antioxidant properties. It is recommended that autistic people regularly consume dark green leafy vegetables and fruits (red apples, red grapes and strawberries are prohibited because they contain phenol), oil seeds such as walnuts and almonds, liver, goat milk and products, eggs, meat and legumes every day.
