Everyone has had a painful memory in their life that they cannot forget. Our painful memories from the past to the present; It creates an obstacle for us to live a healthier life today. With our parents, siblings, school life, social environment, romantic relationships, business life, etc. It is possible that what we experience forms the basis of the problems we want to change and try to get rid of.
In the face of negative events; The only thing people could do to overcome the effects of these painful memories, heal their wounds, and gain the strength to continue their daily lives was to wait desperately. This helpless waiting made people get worse day by day, and they had to continue their lives unhappily, without enjoying life in daily life. Some of them accepted it by saying "this is my destiny" and continued their lives without any joy or pleasure, while some of them rebelled and tried to make them pay for what they were put through and take revenge. Each individual has developed different reactions, thoughts, feelings and beliefs in the face of these life events. Their sense of trust was destroyed, they felt helpless, they were driven to despair, they developed an anxious personality structure, they became angry, they lived with shame for years, they were left with feelings of inadequacy, etc. Psychological structures such as have developed. Shock, anxiety, stress, helplessness, hopelessness, anxiety, grudge, hatred, anger, regret, disappointment, etc. that arise in the face of traumatic painful events. Emotions such as these emerged and prevented them from managing and taking control of their lives. We have developed many behavioral patterns without knowing why. Some people have developed angry, anxious, anxious, hopeless and helpless personality structures and have not been able to reach their true selves.
Why do our past experiences affect our present?
Our subconscious reacts to the negative events we experience. It creates a connection with life and forms the basis of our current problems. Even though we don't care about what we're going through, today It is closely related to our current problems. Negative life events are the underlying reasons why our current problems (anger, stress, failure, self-confidence problems, panic attacks, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety disorders, phobias, etc.) come to light and disturb us right now. People who constantly think they are dirty may have a history of sexual abuse or harassment, and no matter what they do, they cannot shake off the belief that they are dirty. Believing himself to be dirty, he may devote all his energy to cleaning as much as possible to get rid of this dirt throughout his life. The story of a client with social phobia starting this problem may occur after being humiliated by his teacher in the classroom. The belief that "I am worthless" may form and attempt to escape, thinking that he/she will be constantly excluded and not valued in social environments. Panic attack problem; This situation can turn into a big problem for the person by being hospitalized as a result of the first heart palpitations, causing the person to experience this constant fear and worrying that the same things will happen to him again.
Emdr can we forget these negative traumatic life events?
Forgetting and erasing are not included in any therapy approach. Our brain simply pushes these life events into the subconscious by using the suppression defense mechanism. Even if our conscious mind does not remember, it is inevitable that these subconscious life events will still disturb us.
Based on the traumatic life events that occur in our subconscious in these life events, we aim to; negative emotions that accompany the problems we experience (anger, resentment, disappointment, regret, helplessness, hopelessness, panic, excitement, stress, loneliness, etc.), disturbing thoughts, negative strong>body sensations(pain, anxiety, palpitations, sweating, heaviness, tremors, depression, etc.), scenes we cannot forget, and our basic beliefs that develop after these life events ( I'm helpless, I'm in danger, I'm not in control, I'm not safe, I did something wrong, I can't trust anyone, I'm going to die, I can't overcome it, I'm a loser and weak person, etc.), working with our subconscious in many ways. We ensure that our brain undergoes a radical change.
By working with four factors that develop as a result of our negative life events, we activate our brain's natural healing mechanism and ensure its own healing. We achieve this by performing bilateral applications (bidirectional eye movements, bilateral beats, vocal stimulations, etc.).
Rather than making the brain forget, we remember the negative emotional states, thoughts, basic beliefs, scenes, and body sensations that accompany the negative events we experience. Working out not only makes you healthier but also provides the opportunity for permanent recovery.
