What is Sinusitis?
The disease that occurs due to the filling of the air spaces in the bones around the nose, called sinuses, with inflamed tissue is called sinusitis.
The congestion that occurs with sinusitis manifests itself with yellow-green runny nose, headache, difficulty in breathing and postnasal drip.
Air cavities called sinuses are part of the nasal system that creates mucus due to its normal functions. is a part of it. Approximately half a liter of mucus is secreted by the nose and sinuses per day, due to their normal functions. The mucus created by the nasal system is responsible for cleaning bacteria, dust particles and particles in the air breathed in, and eliminating these elements that threaten body health. The mucus fluid, which is then swallowed by filtering into the throat, is broken down and destroyed by the stomach acid. This is a normal body function that is performed many times a day. Sinusitis is the inflammation of this mucosal fluid lining the sinuses.
In general, sinusitis occurs due to the mucus produced by the lining mucosa not being discharged into the nose. We can list the three main factors that cause mucus not to be discharged into the nose as follows;

What is Chronic Sinusitis?
People who have symptoms of sinusitis and receive medical treatment accordingly, but whose complaints do not improve after an average of 3 months, are diagnosed with chronic sinusitis as a result of the relevant tests.

What are the Symptoms of Chronic Sinusitis?
In chronic sinusitis cases where sinusitis symptoms continue for more than 12 weeks, the symptoms may vary from person to person. The general belief is that sinusitis causes headache or facial pain, but sinusitis manifests itself with other complaints rather than pain. We can list the main symptoms of sinusitis as follows;

-Cold, flu, flu lasting more than 10-14 days, mild fever in some cases

How is Chronic Sinusitis Treated?
Sinusitis; It is classified into 3 groups: acute, subacute and chronic sinusitis. Acute sinusitis lasts approximately 4 weeks and heals with medication or spontaneously. Subacute sinusitis is the transitional phase in which acute sinusitis has not yet fully healed and chronic sinusitis has not fully formed. Chronic sinusitis, on the other hand, manifests itself with sinusitis symptoms that continue despite the use of antibiotics. In cases of chronic sinusitis; Changes are made in the person's lifestyle (quitting smoking, etc.), nasal sprays containing glucocorticoids, pills, medications and antibiotics are used. Surgery may be required in cases where chronic sinusitis cannot be treated with medication.

Balloon Sinuplasty Surgery

With the balloon sinuplasty surgical method, the closed hole of the sinuses is first detected and then the deflated balloon is placed in this hole. In balloon sinuplasty performed under x-ray guidance, the balloon can be placed at the most accurate point. Then, the balloon is inflated by applying a certain pressure. Thus, the blocked sinus hole is opened or widened.
The patient who has undergone balloon sinusoplasty surgery can be discharged on the same day, return to work the next day, and the patient's natural anatomical structure is ensured not to be disrupted.
