I will start my article with the words of Tevfika İkiz, one of the doyens of Psychoanalysis;
'WE WILL BE LEFT WITH TWO SCIENCES IN THE FUTURE, ONE OF THEM WILL DEFINITELY BE PSYCHOLOGY..'
At the point we have reached now, a distorted psychological functioning emerges from all physiological disorders. As soon as the spirituality is damaged, or if something goes wrong from the very beginning and the functioning is not maintained properly, the body is doomed to get sick sooner or later. When we look at it from a psychophysiological perspective, the body is trying to talk to us through the disease. If we listen to it and follow it, it tells us where and how we get stuck and sick spiritually. At this point, I would like to discuss a theory that has attracted my attention for a long time and how the body becomes ill through it.
Skin-I
The father of the theory, Didier Anzieu, turned to psychoanalysis because of his mother's tragic story. While initially working as a psychologist, he also did an internship in dermatology. The theories put forward by theorists are closely related to the theorists' own lives. We can think of the person who put forward the theory as an artist who turns his pain into art. Ultimately, it would not be wrong to call therapists, psychologists and psychoanalysts working in this field 'wounded healers'.
Skin-Bene Functions;
1) Skin is our first means of communication with the outside world. Namely; It is the skin that keeps records from the moment we fall into the womb and transmits us the first stimuli about the outside world. In this sense, it is very important and vital. After the baby is born, he/she acquires many ideas through the skin. It senses through its skin what kind of environment it is in and what kind of mother it has.
2) In addition to its function of enveloping the body, the skin is also the one that gathers, shapes and covers the body. It keeps the internal organs together and prevents them from being damaged. This is the concrete function of the skin, and when we consider it in an abstract sense, we become acquainted with the function of the skin that holds the spirituality together. Just like it has the function of holding the body together, it also has the function of ensuring spiritual integrity. Didier Anziue explains it this way;
'We are against this minimization of the role of the skin in the development of spirituality. I have many objections. Tactile sensitivity first emerges in the embryo, if not in the newborn baby. And this is undoubtedly the result of the development of the outer skin, the common neurological source of the skin and the brain.'
As Didier Anziue mentions here, the skin is the first sensory organ to form, and this is very important from a spiritual perspective. Considering that the skin keeps records since the embryo, we can say that spiritual functioning begins to take shape long before the formation of the body.
3) Another function of the skin is to create a boundary between us and the outside world. From another perspective, it has an important function that determines where we start and end and gives us individuality. The skin also forms the boundary between the inner and outer world. If the baby is occupied too much in early infancy, in other words, if not enough space is given or if the baby is exposed to excessive stimulation by the external environment, it becomes possible for many boundary-related problems to arise in adulthood. The skin can take its own measures to reveal its own body, individuality and independence. We can give allergic asthma as an example of the skin's attempt to gain space for itself (of course, this is not the only cause of allergic asthma. The reasons may vary from person to person). When the opposite situation occurs, that is, when there is not enough stimulus from the external environment, the skin becomes prone to disease in order to maintain body integrity. For example, when the mother does not caress her baby enough, does not support him with her own body, and does not offer him warmth, the skin may produce disease in order to obtain this warmth. In case of any damage to the skin, the mother may use medicines, creams, etc. to help her baby heal. It touches the baby through Here, the baby's basic need is the mother's affectionate touches.
The Healing Aspect of Sexuality
Based on the Skin-I, we can say that the only reason for sexuality in our lives is not to satisfy desires. Sexuality gives us a new chance in early infancy, when the external environment is not sufficient and cannot provide the necessary stimuli to maintain physical and spiritual integrity. The person's 'second birth' occurs with an emotional relationship and the necessary trauma of infancy is experienced. r, missing and insufficient external environmental functions are compensated. Of course, in order to reveal the healing aspect of sexuality, emotional satisfaction is required first. On the other hand, I am talking about a sexual life that satisfies both the soul and the body, accompanied by massages and little love games. The function of protecting the integrity of the body and soul seems to be one of the most effective and important functions of sexuality. An untouched body begins to doubt its existence over time, and produces diseases on its own to eliminate this doubt. At this point, the active presence of sexuality in our lives becomes very meaningful. With this function, sexuality acts as a barrier against the body getting sick.
