Social Phobia Consequences and Treatment

Social phobia can be defined as the behavior of avoiding social environments due to fear of humiliation, humiliation, etc. Sometimes a person may try to adapt to the situation with distress and physical symptoms in situations that he cannot avoid. Social phobia most often begins in late childhood and adolescence. These ages can seriously affect the individual because they are the ages when both individual and social identity is formed. The social phobic who does not get involved in society, has difficulty in establishing relationships with the opposite sex, and cannot reach the place he deserves in terms of career, avoids it in order to feel more comfortable and trouble-free, does not develop the skills he needs to develop, and lives a life below his capacity. Depression and anxiety are observed at higher rates in people with social phobia compared to the general population due to the disappointment, distress and depressive stance caused by this situation. Alcohol and substance use is higher than in society. The person tends to use alcohol or drugs before social encounters. This habit turns into addiction after a while.

After all this pessimistic information, I would like to emphasize some important points.

1-Social phobia is the most common anxiety disorder. One in every 5 people experience this problem (you are not alone!!!)

2- The earlier therapy is started, the better the results. Here, many skills can be acquired more quickly and the results are very good since losses have not yet occurred.

3-Social phobia responds very well to psychotherapy.

4-Gains awareness of the cycle of social phobia and learns not to judge. A social phobic who gains the skills to focus on the moment and controls his breathing can start to gain freedom in 1-2 weeks.

5- Whatever you call social phobia, social distress, timidity, fear of failure, it can be shortened with a little awareness and certain techniques. I would like to encourage you by emphasizing that you can get better in a short time.

6-In carefully selected cases, drug treatment can be used temporarily in addition to therapy and other techniques.
