Who do we define with early menopause and what is its frequency?
The classic definition of early menopause is cessation of menstruation under the age of 35. However, this does not have much of an effect other than menopausal complaints and the possible effects of menopause being caught early. The real problem is entering menopause under the age of 40, that is, before the productive age is completed; Menopause occurs in 1 percent of all women under the age of 40. While a woman is looking for career plans and a suitable partner, she may suddenly lose her reproductive abilities in her own world (getting pregnant with someone else's egg is not yet legal in our country).
The most important risk factors:
» Those with early menopause in their family (especially mothers and sisters),
» Women who have frequent and irregular menstrual periods should also have their ovarian reserves investigated.
» Those who will undergo chemotherapy and radiotherapy and or Those who have experienced it
» Smokers (it does not cause early menopause, but these women enter menopause 1-1.5 years early on average).
. What should patients, especially those at high risk for early menopause and women who are afraid of possible early menopause, do?
The best thing to do is to consult a gynecologist and get support on this issue. With the developing technology in recent years, while 5-10 years ago we could only detect whether women were in menopause or in the transition period to menopause, today egg reserves can be detected very accurately with AMH (anti-mullerian hormone) and ultrasound, and women at risk or under concern can be diagnosed with their reproductive functions. We can offer a perspective in terms of menopause and capacities.
In fact, many successful studies have been conducted trying to determine the average age of menopause in women by using maternal age and AMH, and the ages at which possible menopause is expected have begun to be estimated.
