Did you know that today, 95% of kidney stones are treated with a closed method?
New methods in the treatment of kidney stone disease are developing rapidly.
15-20 While open surgeries were frequently performed a year ago, open surgery rates have decreased to 5%-10% in the last 10 years. The most current treatment method used today is endoscopic laser surgery. For this treatment, a flexible endoscopic device called URS is used. One of the main features of this device, which resembles a thin cable, is that it can be directed by the surgeon with a 270-360 degree movement potential. (Fig 1)
Figure 1.
This feature of the Flexible urs (RIRS) method Thanks to this, kidney stones are eliminated wherever they are located in the kidney; It can be cleaned completely endoscopically (without any incision). (Fig .2)
Figure 2.
First, we reach the collecting system of the kidney endoscopically and detect the stones and their location with the camera. Then, with the help of laser, we break the stones until they turn into sand. The success rate of this method is almost 100%. (Fig.3)

Another advantage of the technique is that the hospital stay is 1 day or less. After 1 day, patients can return to their normal lives and work. Another advantage of Flexible URS is that this procedure does not damage the kidney like other methods. For this reason, more than one session can be safely applied in patients with frequently recurring stones and very large kidney stones.
