Liver Cancer: What You Need to Know
The liver is one of the most important organs in your body: It converts food into energy and cleanses our body of harmful substances. The growth of cancer cells in the liver is called liver cancer.
Types of Liver Cancer
Doctors divide liver cancers into two categories:
Primary liver cancer is direct cancer. They are tumors that develop from liver tissue.
Secondary or metastatic liver cancer is tumors that start in another part of the body, such as the large intestine, and spread to the liver.
The most common primary liver cancer includes:
Hepatocellular Carcinoma: This cancer is common (but not always) in liver disease(such as cirrhosis) It is seen and is related to:
- Chronic alcohol use
- Chronic hepatitis
- Diet high in fatty foods
Gallbladder carcinoma: This cancer, found in the gallbladder tissue, does not cause any obvious symptoms until advanced stages.
Chalgiocarcinoma: This cancer is the tube-shaped bile around and inside the liver. It occurs in the ducts.
Metastatic Liver Cancer: These are the most common tumors in the liver.
Various tumors can spread to the liver.
These are ;
- Colorectal cancer that settles in the large intestine
- sarcoma that develops in the bones or connective tissue
- In the adrenal glands < adrenal tumors that start strong>(on your kidneys)
- Kidney cancer that grows in the kidney
- Neuroendocrine tumors that grow from the body's endocrine (hormonal) cells
Diagnosing Liver Cancer
Liver cancer is found by scanning someone with a tomography or MRIscan. However, liver cancers do not show obvious symptoms in the initial stages, so the disease may be advanced by the time the diagnosis is made.
