Our mouth and teeth are very important to us. The mouth is our organ that immediately notices the gap and the slightest change and can also adapt to the changes made. An adaptation period is required to use the prosthesis. It should fit your mouth and palate. Let's think of it like a shoe; Most of the time, it can cause dents, and the teeth also dent in the same way while they are settling into your palate. In such cases, do not take it out of your mouth for a day so that you can get used to the teeth. The affected areas are identified and corrected, providing a comfortable tooth for the patient's mouth.
Types of Prostheses;
1. Fixed Prosthesis: These are veneer-style bonding prostheses such as crowns and bridges that the patient cannot remove himself. Fixed dentures are dentures that are glued to the mouth with a special adhesive and are very difficult to remove and cannot be removed and installed, and these are called crown-bridge bonding dentures.
2. Removable (Partial) Prosthesis: Dentures that can be easily put on and removed by the patient are called removable dentures.
a) Complete (Palate) Prosthesis: It is the prosthesis applied in cases where all natural teeth are lost. These types of prostheses are popularly called "dentures".
b) Skeletal (Partial, Half Palate) Prosthesis: If a removable prosthesis needs to be made in cases where some main teeth are present and some are not, this type of prosthesis is partial. It is a prosthesis. Partial dentures are either in the form of classical acrylic dentures or are made of a single piece casting called skeletal denture (metal casting). These are held in place by wires called clasps, which are held on to the main teeth.
c) Precision retainer prostheses (snap, anchor): They are applied to partially toothless mouths. They are flexible, aesthetic, semi-fixed prostheses that do not have any externally visible apparatus such as hooks.
d) Implant Prostheses: They are made in 2 ways;
Fixed: These are bridges or crowns made with support from the implant. The ideal ones are those made of zirconium or porcelain.
Movable: These are total (palate)-like prostheses made with support from implants, which are preferred in mouths with insufficient bone support. Although these are mobile, retention is excellent.
e) Snoring Plates: As the muscles soften during sleep, the lower jaw falls back and snoring occurs, making breathing difficult. Reception is dangerously interrupted, and the snoring sound produced by the vibration of the soft palate during sleep occurs not while exhaling, but when inhaling. Snoring is a very serious social problem. Snoring causes extreme fatigue and causes the next day to be unproductive. Exercise and diet have a very important effect on the treatment. With the snoring plate, snoring is stopped by preventing the lower jaw from falling back.
f) Night Plate: Teeth Grinding (bruxism) is very common in our society and individuals with this habit are usually unaware of it. Bruxism may be more common in individuals who are stressed, sensitive and meticulous. It manifests itself as wear and breakage of teeth, gum recession, excessive sensitivity of teeth, cracks, irritation on the cheeks, muscle and jaw joint pain. Night guards placed on the patient's lower teeth for treatment are the most important tool used in the symptomatic treatment of teeth grinding. Night guards alone may not always be sufficient, so depending on the severity of the disease, it may be beneficial to use muscle relaxants to help you sleep comfortably in addition to night guards. However, psychotherapy without the use of medication is also very useful if possible.
After meals, the dentures should be taken out of the mouth and the existing teeth in the mouth should be brushed first, then the dentures should be cleaned with water and a brush, and the dentures should generally not be taken out of the mouth at night unless told otherwise by the physician. If there are bumps on the edges of the palate, these bumps are removed under the supervision of a physician and the patient's pain is relieved and the patient is relieved of the pain.
