Seborrheic (oily) eczema, just like psoriasis, is mostly seen on the scalp, face, eyebrows, around the nose and inside and outside of the ears. It is a type of eczema that appears as yellow dandruff-like crusts on pink red areas.

What causes seborrheic eczema?

Seborrheic eczema normally lives harmlessly on our skin. It is thought to be caused by the body's immune system overreacting to the fungus called malaszeisa. It mostly affects the scalp. It is called seborrheic because it is usually seen in the oily parts of the skin.

What are the symptoms of seborrheic eczema?

The symptoms of seborrheic eczema vary from patient to patient. While symptoms increase in cold and dry weather, complaints decrease in hot weather. In addition, the stress level of the patient may cause the symptoms of seborrheic eczema to increase.

How does seborrheic eczema occur?

Although the cause of seborrheic eczema is not yet fully explained, it occurs when the body overreacts to the malasseiza fungus that lives on the skin.

Who gets it?

It is seen in approximately 5% of the population. However, most patients are not aware of this condition.
