Why are varicose veins important in pregnant women?

Viceps are among the reasons that bother the mother the most during pregnancy. The biggest causes of varicose veins during pregnancy are the change in the elasticity of the vascular wall as a result of hormonal changes during pregnancy and the increase in pressure in the veins of the legs due to the increase in intra-abdominal pressure as the mother's womb grows. In addition, the presence of varicose veins before pregnancy and the mother's unusual weight gain are also effective in the formation of varicose veins.

Swelling in the legs due to pooling of blood in the mother's legs, clotting, redness and pain are often observed in gradually growing varicose veins. Mothers with very large varicose veins may experience dizziness or even fainting when standing up, as a considerable amount of blood will pool in the legs.

After varicose veins form, cramps, burning, itching, and bruises on the legs may occur. In addition, varicose veins that move towards the vagina can be seen in the following months and generally in those who give birth frequently.

The situation that we fear most in expectant mothers is deep venous insufficiency as a result of deterioration in the deep main vein. In this case, clotting, which we call deep vein thrombosis, and as a result of clotting in the lungs during pregnancy or in the postpartum period, may cause maternal deaths. He/she should be referred to vascular surgery and a color Doppler ultrasound should be performed. As a result, treatment and preventive medicine should be put into action to protect the pregnant woman.

What should we do to protect from varicose veins during pregnancy? First of all, the expectant mother should take regular walks.

Stretch your legs while resting. It should be taken up high.

Avoid remaining motionless (standing or sitting) for a long time.

Swimming if possible; It is an excellent sport for both the course of pregnancy and preventing the formation of varicose veins.

Avoid being in the sun for a long time. Also, do not be in hot environments such as spas or saunas.

In very hot weather, cold showers can be applied to the legs.

If your doctor deems it necessary, wear compression stockings of the correct size and pressure regularly.

>As the gestational sac grows, that is, as your abdomen grows accordingly, pressure on the venous system will increase and as a result, varicose vein complaints will increase.
