Undescended Testis Diagnosis and Treatment Processes

Undescended testicle is the most common disease of neonatal urology anomalies. It is a condition in which one or both testicles remain higher or even in the abdomen instead of the bag where they should normally be. It is seen in 3% of newborns.

Some of these testicles descend into the bag at the age of 1 year. One in every 100 male babies at the age of 1 has Undescended Testicles. If undescended testicle is not treated, there is a risk of infertility, psychosocial development problems in the child and family, and development of testicular cancer.

How is the diagnosis of undescended testicle?

A careful examination in diagnosis. is sufficient. During the examination, the penis is examined and whether it is circumcised or not is recorded. It is checked whether the bag develops normally. Testicles are tried to be handled. It is checked whether the dimensions are proportional to the age of the child. In the presence of an undescended testicle, an idea is obtained about the location of the testicle. If the testicle is not palpable, surgery is planned, taking into account the age of the child.

Is there any other examination method other than examination and is it necessary?

Only examination is sufficient. Examination alone is sufficient. If it is not present or if it is palpable in the groin, there is no need for another imaging method as surgery will be performed in any case. The testicle will be found and removed through a small incision made in the groin, or if it is in the abdomen, it will be found by laparoscopic method and lowered into the bag with a single or two-session surgery.

What is the importance of the age of surgery?

Statistical studies have shown that children who undergo surgery at the age of 1 or younger have the same chance of becoming a father as normal children.

Does lowering the testicles prevent the development of cancer?

It is assumed that there are some congenital defects in these testicles, and it is recommended that the testicles be checked at regular intervals, especially by the family, for the development of cancer.

How are the surgeries performed, how does the process work?

After the diagnosis of Undescended Testis, we see if the testicle is If it is in the groin and there is a belief that it will not descend for sure, surgery may be recommended starting from 6 months. In others, it can be waited for the first year, and if it still has not descended, surgery can be performed.
