PAY ATTENTION TO NUTRITION DURING THE SUMMER PERIOD

Dietitian Merve Sayın emphasized that attention should be paid to nutrition during the summer period and said that alcoholic and acidic drinks should be avoided as the consumption of liquid foods is of great importance in the summer period.

Dietitian Sayın stated that the most important points in summer nutrition are to drink plenty of fluids and choose low-fat foods. "It is important for us to eat foods that are easy to digest and contain plenty of water. Again, warmer weather brings water to our body It causes loss of minerals such as sodium, potassium, etc. Therefore, plenty of fluids should be taken. Since the consumption of liquid foods is of great importance in the summer period, alcoholic and acidic drinks should be avoided. Instead, drinks such as soda, ayran, and water can be preferred. Especially in this season, it is cold. We say that soups, vegetable dishes, yoghurt, tzatziki, compote, milk desserts, salads and similar foods should be consumed abundantly in the summer. We say do not skip meals and make sure to add snacks. Summer is a period when it is desired to add snacks to the nutrition, as in the winter period, and in this period, other foods are recommended. The variety in vegetables and fruits increases a little more, so we want to add fruits and vegetables to snacks. We say do not eat too much fatty foods." Explaining that eating too much fatty foods in the summer months can disturb people more, Sayın continued his words as follows: "We want people to stay away from processed foods as much as possible during this period. Again, we say be careful when consuming sugary foods. Choosing milk desserts, ice creams, seasonal vegetables and fruits instead of sherbet foods will meet your daily required amount. Therefore, it will be enough for people to move as much as they can in the summer months as the weather warms up, to choose more fruits with less sugar content, to have a full main meal, to have a snack an hour or two later and to drink plenty of fluids. " 

Stating that frying is one of the desired food types, especially in the summer months Sayın continued his words as follows:“The interest in fried food increases a little more. Making it in the form of barbecued and grilled vegetables instead of making it with animal fat will both increase the saturation threshold for people and prevent harmful microorganisms from entering the body. Therefore, as we said, attention should be paid to cooking methods. One of the biggest problems we encounter in the summer months is food poisoning. This is because microorganisms can reproduce much faster in warm conditions. That's why people need to store the food they prepare in appropriate ways as much as they can."
