Sensory Games in the Park

Parks become developmentally supportive for children when used in a sensory sense. You can both observe whether your child has sensory problems and support him/her with sensory park experiences.

Slides:

The excitement, speed and height mixed with fear you experienced when sliding down the slide as a child. and remember the fun. Most of them are the only toys found in every park. Slides are sensory; It serves two basic senses: Vestibular (movement) and Proprioception (feedback from muscles and joints). At the same time, balance, strength and coordination development can be achieved by diversifying.

Swings:

Swinging gives a pleasant feeling to all of us. The same is true for children. However, if your child becomes moody while riding the swing or appears anxious while swinging, I think it would be beneficial to be a good observer and consult an expert. Specifically, swings play an important role in providing vestibular (movement) sensation. We try to give priority to stimulating the vestibular sense because; It provides the brain with information that enables the development of many skills. Those skills; These are areas such as muscle tone, coordination, balance, visual coordination, focus and attention, language and speech development.

Balance Toys:

Balance is a skill that is not only about doing somersaults and staying balanced, walking a thin line without mistakes, but also about standing upright in daily life, attention and continuity. When playing with balance toys, information is required from both vestibular (movement) and proprioceptive (body awareness) senses. The vestibular sense tells how fast the child's head is moving and in what position it is. Whether your child's head is upright, head down, or sideways (seemingly incompatible with movement) may be an important detail that your pediatric therapist should know. The proprioceptive sense will receive information from the muscles and joints in the balance game and provide information on how your child should maintain his balance while sitting, standing, and moving.

When playing balance games, you should pay attention to the following;

If you observe one or more of these, I recommend you spend more time playing balance games in the park and consult an expert.
