Before sciatica treatment, let's answer the question of what sciatica is. The sciatic nerve passes through the piriformis muscle in the hip and goes to the leg. Usually due to a reverse, unstable and sudden movement, the sciatic nerve gets compressed in the piriformis muscle and causes a unilateral local pain in the hip in that exact area. The pain sometimes spreads to the leg and therefore can be confused with a herniated disc. This disease is called piriformis syndrome. The disease tends to become chronic. Rest, medication and an appropriate exercise program help some patients. The interventional pain treatment we use in the treatment of sciatica in our clinic is Piriformis Injection.
PÄ°RIFORMIS INJECTION
Piriformis injection, which is the scientific, reliable and most effective method in the treatment of sciatica, is a combination of drugs (steroids) injected into the piriformis muscle under imaging guidance. It is the process of administering local anesthetic, hypertonic NaCl). The aim is to relieve the pressure on the sciatic nerve by reducing edema and inflammation in that area and allowing the piriformis muscle to relax. There is no need for serious preparation before the procedure. It is performed under local anesthesia and the procedure takes 5-10 minutes.
