Dr. Ersin Aksu stated that obesity opens the door to fatal diseases and said, “It is one of the most common causes of death after heart diseases, that is, it is one of the diseases that shorten life. Because obesity does not occur alone; hypertension, hyperepidemia, diabetes, heart diseases, joint diseases, sleep apnea, fatty liver, etc. It also causes side effects to many vital diseases. It is thought that there are approximately 2 million obesity patients in Turkey. Therefore, obesity treatment becomes more important every day,” he said. Dr. Aksu also warned patients about treatment methods. Stating that stomach reduction operations should be considered as the last step of the treatment process, Op. Dr. Aksu said, “There are 4 treatment stages before surgical intervention in obesity treatment. The first of these is diet. In other words, the patient struggles with obesity under the guidance of a dietician. If this is not successful, drug treatment is started in the second stage. This time, the patient is monitored by an endocrinologist and weight loss is aimed with medications. If success is not achieved again, psychiatric support and behavioral therapies are started in the third stage. If all these methods fail, obesity surgery comes into play. We also have important criteria to decide on stomach reduction surgery. The most important of these are body mass index and age. "In order for obesity surgery to be performed on a patient, the body mass index must be 35 and above and the patient must be between the ages of 16-65," he said.
THERE IS NO SINGLE METHOD IN SURGERY
Stating that there are various operation methods at this point, Aksu said that the complications of stomach reduction surgery are; He said that it stands out as the method that minimizes problems that cause problems to the patient, such as bleeding and leakage.
STOMACH VOLUME IS REDUCED TO 30 CC
Op. Dr. Aksu, 80-85 percent of the stomach is removed with stomach reduction surgery. Stating that 'is meant', he said: “This rate varies depending on the patient. It is very important to meet the patient's standard here. It requires serious expertise. At the end of the first year after surgery, stomach volume increases to 60 cc. After a year, it increases from 60 cc to 120 cc. Later, it can grow up to 200 cc. "We can discharge our patient 2 days after the surgery," he said.
