At the end of the twentieth century, the "Structuralism" approach, a philosophical movement, became dominant. Structuralism has been used mostly in the analysis of societies and cultures. "Structuralism", which has an important place in Western philosophy, derives from the root of structure. It is a philosophical movement that argues that a whole emerges when parts come together. One of the most important pioneers is Levi-Strauss. Levi Strauss was more interested in the culture, anthropology and language development of structuralism and nourished this approach with a psychodynamic perspective. In this case, according to Strauss, when considered from a structuralist perspective in the development of family dynamics, each family and family members are parts that bring together a separate whole. Family and everything belonging to the family and the relationships it creates are evaluated. It includes individuals and their contacting relationships, cultural values, cultural patterns and their coding in this manner.
While the structuralist approach deals with societies, it is also interested in the distance and formation of the family, which is the building block of society, and the relationships within it. The area where structural family therapy works is to change the structure within the family, starting with the individuals. It occurs when the change within the family structure affects individual individuals.
Salvador Minuchin, one of the people who best used structuralist family couple therapy, contributed to the development of the theory and carried it to family systems. According to structural theory, the problem in individuals can be solved within the family and may become more of a problem within the family. Studies conducted in this field are concerned with overcoming relational difficulties, not with the individual's internal distress and the processes of these distresses. Evaluations are made by looking at the impact of the internal distress of individuals within the family on individuals and relationships. In domestic relations, it is examined how the parts of the system interact and how they make each other functional and dysfunctional.
In domestic relations, it is aimed to avoid establishing a bilateral coalition and to form the triangle and hierarchy of being (mother, father and child). According to structural theory, in the family; The healthy boundary between mother, father and children is There should be a clear and clear border. In families where boundaries are clear, both boundaries and a sense of compassion prevail. In families where boundaries are strict, compassion is lacking and the boundaries are very sharp. In family structures where the boundaries are not clear, the boundaries are not clear and the children are in a dominant and powerful position.
As a result, as a result of the studies carried out, the awareness of the individuals within the family and their perceptions of themselves begin to change. In the structuralist family couple therapy technique, family relationships are studied based on the patterns of each other. The result of the therapeutic intervention here is; is the family structure. It results in addressing the family structure and changing this structure. As a result of all these studies, the restructuring of the family is discussed.
