Unfortunately, in today's conditions, our children spend more time in front of the television and computer than their parents. During this period, some of the characters they identify with and inspire them are negative, hitting, hurtful and damaging figures. The negative identification that these characters will create in their world is obvious, and families often take precautions when they realize this situation.
Do positive figures have an effect?
What about positive things? I wonder how much of an impact the superheroes we see have on our children? These superheroes save people and solve problems using their superpowers. Our children's imaginations are developing and they may be having a lot of fun, but what is left behind that they can apply in the real world and what they have gained?
Is it enough for our children to just enjoy?
I can do it too Do they take action with emotion or do they only have short-term pleasure-oriented effects on them? Why don't they watch hopeful stories? Why don't they read the lessons learned by wise people while reaching their wisdom? Why can't they listen to the brave people who do not think individually but take steps and challenge? Why can't they feel that small steps can make a difference? Why don't our children see that ordinary people can do things that change the world?
Our children should be inspired by real life…
The right heroes can make them focus on their strengths, not their weaknesses. It can show our children that what they have is enough to do a lot. These examples can make it easier for them to be children who cope and challenge, rather than being afraid or thinking they can't do it. Our children can experience the long-term pleasure of success, not just momentary happiness. Why shouldn't they take inspiration from the examples of human history in the past, say "I can do it too" and spread their wings with hope for the future? Why shouldn't the individuals who change the world come from your family? Do you need superpowers to leave your mark in life?
With love to my two real heroes, Atatürk and my father. Happy April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day, with the hope of raising children who have the hope that they can change the world...
