Advice for Those Doing IVF for the First Time

The primary goal is to get pregnant at the first time and deliver your baby safely.

It depends on a number of factors for both men and women. The most important of these is WOMEN'S AGE. Because the quality of the egg obtained depends on age and is the most important factor affecting the quality of the embryo that will be formed. In cases where the female age exceeds 42-43, our chances are below approximately 5%. Another important factor is the man's sperm status. Apart from these, accompanying diseases (goiter, diabetes, obesity, etc.), disease in the tubes, weak ovarian reserve, operations or diseases performed inside the uterus may have a negative impact on success. In summary;

First of all, it is very important why in vitro fertilization treatment is sought. Since it is not right to apply in vitro fertilization to everyone all the time, it is necessary to make a clear treatment decision. After the decision is made, the first thing to do is to avoid stress and not think negatively. In this process, let's stay away from our smoking and alcohol habits. Let's keep our morale high.

In vitro fertilization treatment usually starts on the 2nd or 3rd day of menstruation. However, depending on the protocol to be chosen, it can also start on the 21st day of the previous menstrual period. Generally, starting with menstruation is preferred and daily abdominal injections are started. After an injection is given once a day for approximately 10-15 days, when the follicles growing in the ovaries mature, a cracking injection is made and the eggs are collected under anesthesia after 36 hours. Meanwhile, sperm samples are taken from the spouses and sperm are injected into the collected eggs with a needle. The fertilization process is followed in special environments for approximately 4-5 days, and at the end of this period, the best embryo(s) are transferred into the uterus.

  • Egg enlargement with daily injections

  • Collection of eggs

  • Fertilization of collected eggs with sperm in the laboratory

  • Embryos are obtained from fertilized eggs

  • Transferring the obtained embryos into the uterus

  • The eggs collected and fertilized with sperm are stored in special laboratory environments called incubators. The embryos that are monitored with special systems during storage are noted, especially those that are prioritized and well divided. Then, embryos determined to be of the highest quality using special scoring systems are separated for transfer. In our center, especially day 5 embryos called blastocysts are used.

    After the transfer process, we need to rest for 1-2 days and avoid heavy sports and work. It is important to avoid caffeinated drinks, avoid alcohol or cigarettes, and avoid sexual intercourse. We check the blood for a pregnancy test approximately 12 days after the transfer. It is very important to use the recommended medications completely during this period.
