Free Flap Repair

In the repair of tissue losses resulting from trauma, tumor surgery or in the repair of breast, penis, nose, fingers, etc. Removing a tissue from one part of the body, called a free flap, with its vessels and moving it to another place using microsurgical techniques, such as in the reconstruction of a part of the body, is one of the high-level interventions of reconstructive surgery. There is a chance to achieve the highest level of functional and aesthetic results as a result of these surgeries. However, these interventions require difficult and long surgeries. In addition, since the entire tissue is fed by very small diameter vessels, any blockage in the vessels resulting from any reason after their repair may lead to the loss of all the transported tissue. Therefore, patients who are planning a free tissue transplant should be aware of this risk. However, in hands experienced in the field of microsurgery, these risks reach acceptable levels. Here are some examples of surgeries requiring free flap repair:

– Repair of large three-dimensional defects resulting from tumor surgery

– Gender change surgeries

– Finger transplants from foot to hand

– Repair of soft and bone tissue losses in the limbs resulting from trauma
