Venous Ulcer and its Treatment

It often occurs as it descends towards the ankles, that is, in places where venous pressure is high. It is frequently observed in the advanced stage of leg varicose veins, that is, Stage 6 varicose veins. First of all, skin thickening, itching and brown color changes occur in the area where the wound will appear. It is seen after deep vein thrombosis.

Treatment is started by first taking into account the way the disease occurs. Unless there is an underlying venous thrombosis, our treatment protocol is to first treat the patient's varicose veins. Afterwards, PRP and small cell applications are applied to the varicose ulcers that are still not healing. At the same time, the patient is given compression stockings and medication. Generally, after this protocol, the patient's varicose ulcers heal. In rare patients who do not recover, compression and hyperbaric oxygen therapy are the next options.

In patients with underlying venous thrombosis, the treatment protocol varies at some stages. It is recommended that the patient always use compression stockings. Perforating (bridge) veins are closed with a sclerosing agent under ultrasound guidance. During the session, PRP and stem cell treatment is applied to the patient's ulcers. Compared to varicose ulcers, its treatment is longer and more difficult.
