Collective Consciousness

Collective Consciousness; It was first used by Emile Durkheim. According to Durkheim, the fundamental choices made are outside the individual and are a social event. In other words, it is the normative order and social phenomenon that decides how people think and behave. Looking at this definition, we can say that the traumas we experience are passed on from generation to generation.

If I mourn an emotion and confront it, that emotion ends; if I cannot face it, I pass it on to my child. If he can't handle it, he passes it on to his own child. So history really does repeat itself. Let's take a closer look at a historical event that occurred to the collective consciousness...

During a war between the Ottomans and the Crusaders, the Ottoman Empire is moving towards winning the war. 1. Murat leaves his tent and begins to wander around the battlefield. One of the Serbs on the battlefield says, "Take me to the sultan, I ask for forgiveness and I want to become a Muslim" (the person who said this is the son-in-law of the Serbian king). The moment they took him to the sultan, he stabbed Murat I with the dagger he took out of his chest. Murat I continues to lead the war while wounded, eventually wins the war, and then dies.

While kings taken captive in the Ottoman Empire were not normally killed, Serbian King Lazar was killed after being captured because the sultan was killed by one of them. He is buried in the same area.

Approximately 600 years pass and in 1995, Serbian President Milosevic says; ''The Ottomans killed our king, let's look for the bones of this king.'' Work begins and later a monument is built with the bones found.

The head of state makes all people mourn an event that took place approximately 600 years ago, and all the people feel a sense of relief. After a while, anger begins; Who killed this king? The Turks. Where do Turks live? in Bosnia. Then let's kill them! For 600 years, this mourning has been passed down from generation to generation and has not been fully experienced. While those people think they are the Serbs of 600 years ago, they think the people in Bosnia are the people of the Ottoman period. What the Serbs thought they killed was not the Bosnian people, but the Ottomans 600 years ago.

To summarize; we live in cause of problems; 1-) traumas in my own childhood 2-) traumas experienced by those who raised me 3-) traumas from the higher generation
