Arthrosis of the knee, or calcification in colloquial terms, is a disease that occurs with the wear and thinning of the cartilage covering the bone surfaces of the knee joint and its loss in advanced stages. Orthopedics and Traumatology Specialist, Op. Dr. Mesut Caferi talked about arthritis in the knees.
It Can Be Seen More Commonly in Men
Dr. Mesut Caferi, 'It is more common in female patients than in males, begins at an earlier age, and gradually increases with age, especially in the 50s. The disease usually begins in the cartilage and continues with damage to the cartilage, deformation of the bone surfaces, and deformity of the leg in advanced stages. Knee arthrosis develops as primary or secondary. The more common primary arthrosis is a condition that can be seen in anyone without an underlying disease and usually occurs with increasing age. Among the reasons why primary arthrosis develops at an earlier age and more rapidly are overweight, malnutrition, poor living and working conditions, and exposure to excessive load on the knee. Since we see primary calcification more in some families, it proves the role of heredity in formation. Secondary arthrosis occurs as a result of a disease or an accident. "The causes of secondary arthrosis include accidents affecting the knee joint, some diseases that affect other joints such as rheumatism and gout, as well as some congenital diseases around the knee," he said.
It Can Also Be Treated with Non-Surgical Methods

The symptoms of arthritis include pain, swelling of the knee joint from time to time, a feeling of friction in the joint, clicking noises coming from the joint, and deformity that occurs in the future, said Dr. Caferi drew attention to the following issues: ''Knee arthrosis is treated with surgical and non-surgical methods. Non-surgical methods include medication, physical therapy and injections into the knee (cartilage-preserving ready-made needles, PRP and stem cell therapy). Surgical treatment methods include closed knee cleaning surgery or, in later stages, prosthetic surgery that partially or completely replaces the knee joint. ir. As with other diseases, early diagnosis and treatment and precautions to be taken before getting sick are of great importance. The most appropriate treatment method for arthritis should be selected and applied by the physician depending on the patient's age, the stage of the disease and the suitability of social conditions.''
