The Russian Sleep Experiment was a topic that I came across in a very popular psychology magazine last year and made me very curious. Of course, the conclusion I reached at the end of my research is completely different. Our story is as follows: In Russia, after the end of the Second World War, 5 imprisoned political criminals are promised that they will be released if they agree to participate in an experiment in which they will be sleepless for a month. Water, food, books, etc. will be provided in the room where they will stay. things are available. To prevent them from sleeping, the oxygen level of the room was controlled and no bed was left in the room.
*5. Day: Participants stopped talking. They started whispering into the microphone next to them to communicate.
*9. Day: Two of the subjects screamed for hours, and this continued until their vocal cords were damaged. All subjects stopped whispering into the microphones.
*14. Day: There were no sounds coming from inside anymore. When the researchers said they would go in, the subjects stated that they did not want to be free anymore.
*15. Day: Soldiers entering find the subjects covered in blood. Although most of the food in the room remained, the subjects injured each other and ate the flesh of themselves and their friends.
CRITICISM
No official documents regarding this experiment could be found.
This story was first published in August 2010 on the site called Creepy Pasta, which is a favorite of teenagers who love horror stories. It became a hot topic again in 2014.
17-year-old Randy GARDNER went without sleep for 266.5 hours (11 days) to break the Guinness Book of Records in 1965, and he certainly did not exhibit extremely abnormal behavior as in the story. He only had intense symptoms such as weakness and inattention.
There are countless insomnia experiments in the history of science that lasted between 8-10 days, and such behavior was not observed in any of them.
The experiment is unethical (You can criticize this criticism).
Neither oxygen adjustment nor a different gas can keep people sleepless for 15 or 30 days, as claimed in the experiment. .
SUMMARY: This is not an experiment, it is a horror story. Don't take it seriously. If someone tells you this as if it were real…
