Uterine film, also known as hysterosalpingography or medicated uterine film, means imaging the inside of the uterus and the tubes using radiography with a dye. Thanks to the fluid injected through the cervix, both the inside of the uterus and the tubes become visible on the film. Since the dyestuff given to take the uterine film, which is one of the most preferred methods in cases of infertility, is given under pressure, it can provide a therapeutic effect in cases where it can clear the obstructive mucus-like substances in the tubes. This imaging method, which has been used for more than 50 years, has become less painful and almost bleeding-free thanks to developing technology.
When Should a Uterine Film Be Taken?
Uterus The ideal time to take the film is three or four days after menstrual bleeding ends. During this period, clearer results can be obtained because the inner tissue of the uterus is extremely thin. Additionally, during this period, women's chances of pregnancy are close to minimum. For this reason, no harm is caused to the pregnancy that will occur during the filming. Patients who will have a uterine X-ray are recommended to take painkillers about half an hour before the shooting to avoid any cramps during the shooting. Uterine filming is a procedure that takes approximately 5-10 minutes.
Chance of Pregnancy
Although many women become pregnant after uterine filming. Filming has no direct effect on pregnancy. The effects of uterine X-ray, which is a form of imaging, on pregnancy are controversial. A group of researchers argue that the mechanical effect of high-pressure administration of the dye given for imaging allows the sperm and egg to meet for a few months after the filming, thanks to the cleaning of small adhesions, mucus plugs and clots in the tubes. Some researchers think that the iodine and chemicals contained in the dyestuff facilitate access to the tubes and stimulate the uterine mucosa, allowing the embryo to adhere. For whatever reason, pregnancy may not occur after uterine film shooting. The chance of success increases slightly.
