Botox (Botilinum toxin) has been the most frequently used aesthetic procedure in the world since its discovery in 1989. This treatment is used to correct wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and near the eyes, which are called "crow's feet". These wrinkles make the face look tired, old, unhappy or angry.
Although its side effects and complications have not been shown, Botox application is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is not expected that Botox applied in small doses under the skin will pass into the unborn baby and breast milk.
The needles used for Botox are quite small. Before the procedure, anesthetic creams are applied to the injection area and ice is applied, but despite all this, as with every injection, the patient may feel a small amount of pain and discomfort. The patient is not asked to massage the injection area for at least 24 hours. Processing time is around 30 minutes. Bleeding, edema and bruising are generally not expected.
The first effects of Botox application usually begin on the fourth day, and the changes in the face due to Botox application become final between the seventh and tenth days. Due to this situation, we always call the patient who received Botox for a check-up between the seventh and tenth days and decide whether corrections will be made and whether the patient needs additional Botox application.
The effect duration of Botox application varies between 4 and 6 months. This period varies depending on your age, whether you have had Botox before, and the amount and depth of wrinkles on your face. Even facial structure, diet and smoking habits can affect this period.
Botox applications can often be applied together with fillers applied to the facial area. These Botox and filler applications are preferred in the same session because the application time is short in both procedures, pain is low, it does not cause significant swelling and bruising on the face, and the effects become noticeable in the first days after the application.
