Is It Possible to Be Free from Anxiety about the Past and the Future?

Before you start reading, I want you to look at the time. Are you at that hour and that minute right now? Or are you stuck at a point in the past or is your head full of thoughts about the future? Exactly the right question: “Am I in the moment where I am right now?”

The living conditions of our age constantly push us to worry. These concerns increase as a person gets older. Accumulated worries emerge as different psychological disorders when they exceed the person's anxiety threshold. Being able to stay in the moment is not just about managing worries. In fact, staying in the moment can achieve satisfactory success in three different dimensions. These; It is the values you believe in, your behavioral avoidances and your ability to accept events.

Values, the value you give to family, the value you give to social life, the value you give to your religious belief, the value you give to business life, the value you give to married life. It can be multiplied with many examples such as. When you sit down and think with a calm mind, do you think you can give as much importance to these values as necessary? If you think that you value less than you should, your subconscious will constantly make you experience this uneasiness. You must either redefine your values or reflect the importance you attach to these values in your behavior. A person who is satisfied here means that he has completed part of the process of staying in the moment (mindfulness).

Behavioral avoidance is a defensive reaction that everyone has to some things they fear in their lives. These reactions, which are the body's natural defense mechanism, want to keep the person in the safe zone. Any stimulus that is perceived as a threat or alarm makes the person believe that they need to retreat. It distracts you from an object, environment or any thought that you fear or feel distressed about. The person who feels that momentary relief believes that it will pass if he avoids it in this way. Because the thought that avoiding the situation that is constantly experienced equals comfort is established. However, whenever it encounters whatever is perceived as a constant threat, the body's reaction never decreases. Even if a person knows how irrational it is to be afraid, he cannot help but avoid it. To get rid of avoidance, identify the underlying concerns. should be pitted. Avoidances will disappear when thoughts gradually become desensitized.

Acceptance is the ability to quickly accept the situation and take action in case of any problem encountered. The faster and more efficiently a person's acceptance processes work, the more likely they are to have psychological flexibility. This allows you to continue without getting stuck in any crisis.

Values, behavioral avoidance, acceptance and staying in the moment are intertwined with each other. Focusing on any of them will contribute to the development of the others. A person who improves himself in these three dimensions can be more successful in staying in the moment. Although it is not possible to stay in the moment for 24 hours, the likelihood of suffering from psychological disorders decreases when a person increases the number of times he stays in the moment. The way to create a natural immune system for psychological disorders is to develop exactly these dimensions.
