Vaginismus has different characteristics due to its nature. For this reason, there are different types. It can occur during the first sexual experience or develop later. In other words, women with sexual experience may also be diagnosed with vaginismus due to certain reasons. We can say the following for vaginismus that occurs during the first sexual experience: It is a condition in which there is a constant involuntary contraction in the outer third of the vagina that prevents intercourse, this is experienced at moderate intensity for the first time, and it is described as painful, which does not allow intercourse. The person has never had a successful sexual intercourse in his life. When we look at vaginismus that develops later, we see the following: A person has had sexual intercourse before, but later encountered a vaginismus problem due to reasons such as miscarriage, birth, tear, abortion, poor examination and severe infection.
There is no sexual trauma from the past. If the vagina is entered with a finger, but the partner still pushes and contracts during intercourse, this condition is called simple vaginismus and is easier to treat. If there is sexual trauma in the past, it means there are many repressed emotions and treatment becomes difficult, this situation is called severe vaginismus.
