Living conditions in recent years include many things such as working at a desk for long periods of time, leaning forward in front of the computer, working in a hunched position, wearing high-heeled shoes, long hours spent in the car in traffic, living under extreme stress, wrong postures and sittings, and not sleeping well. Many factors cause widespread neck, shoulder and arm pain in the majority of the population, as well as muscle tightness, commonly referred to as 'crush'.
Various painkillers taken are only temporary solutions, and the pain recurs after a while. It enters a vicious circle and becomes chronic, creating a feeling of helplessness in the person.
Neck symptoms often occur diffusely and spread towards the trapezius muscles and scapular regions. Pain radiating down the arm may indicate nerve root irritation or compression. The most common causes of this are cervical disc slip or degenerative changes such as hypertrophy and osteophytes in joints and ligaments.
Chronic Pain in the Neck
The neck and lumbar vertebrae are adjacent to soft tissues. While doing so, the thoracic vertebrae are supported by the ribs. The neck and waist area lack this support. Therefore, more load is imposed. This is one of the main reasons why pain occurs especially in the neck and waist.
Neck muscles contract reflexively in the face of trauma (impact) and similar severe stimuli. In the face of an unexpected, sudden movement, this protective contraction occurs and the clinical picture we call acute neck tension occurs.
Chronic neck tension pain is due to chronic spasm of the neck muscles. It is more common in secretaries and those who work sitting down. Poor posture, emotional stress, severe cold and fatigue can be counted among the causes. There is stiffness, spasm and pain in the neck. Neck movements are limited.
Acupuncture treatment for sudden tension pain in the neck should be started immediately after the trauma. Acupuncture treatment allows the patient to relax by resolving muscle spasm and creating a pain-relieving effect. Beyond this, acupuncture will try to prevent the recurrence of the problem by reducing emotional stress with its regulatory effect on the limbic system.
The Effect Mechanism of Acupuncture in the Treatment of Cervical Disc Herniation
1. By relieving pain: Acupuncture activates painkillers in the body. The acupuncture needles we insert during acupuncture activate the Endorphins in the body. Endorphin is a very powerful painkiller specific to the body. Thus, the patient gets rid of his pain without taking oral painkillers.
2. Acupuncture activates muscle relaxants in the body. Gaba is secreted by stimulating the Valium point located in front of the auricle with an acupuncture needle. Gaba (Gamma-amino-butyric-acid) is a very powerful muscle relaxant. Thus, the patient gets rid of the muscle spasm that occurs around the cervical disc herniation without taking oral muscle relaxants.
3. Acupuncture activates edema-solving substances in the body. Cortisone is secreted by stimulating the adrenal gland in the ear with an acupuncture needle. Cortisone has an edema resolving effect. Cortisone relieves the area by distributing the edema formed in and around the cartilage tissue in the herniated area, thus eliminating the pressure on the vessels and nerves in that area.
4. Acupuncture activates calming substances in the body. Acupuncture increases the level of Serotonin and Endorphin in the blood, giving the person peace and sedation during the treatment.
Treatment of Neck Pain with Acupuncture:
Acupuncture is a treatment for all back and neck pain. It is used as a treatment method. The treatment is applied for 10-14 sessions every other day or every day for approximately 20-30 minutes. Then, the sessions are continued once a week, then once a month, and then once every 3 months. If the pain usually responds after 4-5 sessions, it means that it responds very well to the treatment. Sometimes there may be stubborn cases, and then acupuncture can be continued for 1 course per year.
Acupuncture for Neck and Back Pain
On our back; The most superficial muscle, starting from the nape of our neck, to our shoulder blades, and from there to the lower part of our back, is the Musculus Trapezius.
This muscle can be called a lightning rod of stress. The stress of daily life shows its first effect with the stretching of the Musculus Trapezius, especially the part between the shoulder and the root of the neck.
This is a warning for the stressed person. The stimulus that causes stress does not disappear or the stimulus cannot be overcome. Otherwise, tension turns into contraction.
There is a muscle chain relationship between all our muscles. The contraction caused by this relationship spreads towards our neck and back of our head. This situation may cause tension in the neck, restriction in neck movements, and tension-type headaches.
In addition; the contraction does not stay in the place where it first occurred, and again due to the muscle chain, our vertebrae are in the lower layer and It causes the contraction of our thin muscles called musculus rhomboideus major and minor, which lie between the shoulder blades and the inner edge of our shoulder blades.
The contraction areas of these muscles are fibromyalgia foci that can be determined by manual examination on the inner side of the shoulder blades, popularly known as the lumen. Back pain; These are the areas where the patient describes it as "like a knife being inserted" and where it is most commonly felt.
Neck and back pain; as a result of heavy lifting, reverse and forceful movements, or exposure to air currents, especially when sweaty. Although it can occur, the most common cause is chronic stress.
Hernias occurring between the vertebrae also cause complaints of neck and back pain that can spread to the arms.
Neck and back pain caused by cervical herniations or other reasons for which surgery is not indicated. Pains can be treated with acupuncture.
Acupuncture; in addition to its muscle relaxant effect, it can relieve pain with morphine-like painkillers called endorphins. It also regulates the limbic system, making the person more resistant to stress.
A needle placed appropriately in the relevant ear point allows the body to release these blockages on its own in a short time.
For each blockage, there is usually another. Obstructions of the facet joints in the regions should also be added to the treatment.
In the treatments to be performed in the ear, C0, Retro C0 / C1, C7, Stellate ganglion, SI-3 (Retro-Celiac Plexus Point), LR-3 (Anger Point), LI-4 (thalamus), Diazepam Analog Point, Depression Point, Master Omega Points are used.
I wish you all healthy and happy days.
