Longo Method in Hemorrhoid Treatment

Longo is one of the most effective methods in the surgical treatment of hemorrhoids. In this surgery, a tool called Longo stapler is used, which can automatically cut and sew, and this tool is disposable. It is used once for each patient.

The entire intestine is removed 4-5 cm above the externally visible part of the anus, forming a ring of 1-2 cm width. Within this ring, all of the vessels that cause hemorrhoids remain within this removed tissue. In this way, the possibility of hemorrhoid recurrence is greatly reduced due to the tissue removed in the form of a ring. In surgeries performed with the classical method, there is more and longer pain after the surgery due to the wounds formed around the anus. In the Longo technique, since the surgery is performed in a nerve-poor area, the pain is less and the recovery is faster.

Who Can Perform Longo Surgery?

It should be preferred mostly in patients with anal prolapse. The prolapsed intestine is suspended by surgery.

The Longo method provides an effective treatment for anal prolapse (anal prolapse), 3rd and small 4th degree bleeding internal hemorrhoids. In patients with large grade 4 internal and external hemorrhoids and disorders around the anus, techniques in addition to Longo are used to remove the excess.

1. and 2nd degree internal hemorrhoids.

Anal prolapse is a good solution for 3rd and 4th degree hemorrhoids.

Features of Longo Hemorrhoid Surgery

Low Pain: 80 percent of patients who undergo surgery with the Longo technique need less painkillers. The patient can easily defecate after a day.

Preventing Anal Prolapse: With the help of a disposable tool, the hemorrhoid nozzles are pulled upwards and all of them are inside. Thus, the internal hemorrhoid nozzles are prevented from sagging outwards.

Cutting and Stitching the Veins: This tool cuts and stitches these veins. Thus, since the veins will be fixed, the hemorrhoid nozzles will not come out of the anus during subsequent straining.

Earlier Recovery: The duration of the surgery varies between 20-30 minutes. Most patients can return to their active lives and work after 3-4 days.

Reduction in the Chance of Recurrence:While recurrence in methods such as classical hemorrhoid operations and laser is around 10-15%, in longo surgery the recurrence is around 2-3%.
