What is Pronunciation Phonology Test (SST)?

Pronunciation and Phonology Test is a norm-based standardized test that aims to evaluate the differential diagnosis of pronunciation problems and speech disorders such as difficult to understand speech in children aged 2-8 years. It gives information about the dimensions of development.

Pronunciation and Phonology Test consists of three subtests. These subtests are:

Pronunciation Screening Subtest

It is a subtest used to measure the articulation proficiency of phonemes through picture naming.

There are 24 phonemes in total in Turkish, in single, two, three and polysyllabic words, in different positions as syllable-beginning-word, beginning-word-in-word, syllable-end-in-word and syllable-end-word end. .In this subtest, the therapist shows the child pictures and asks the child to say the name of the object. According to the child's answers, the child's mistakes are determined by writing the test with IPA (Phonetic Alphabet). As a result of this subtest, the child's speech intelligibility is calculated. For example;

Auditory Discrimination Test

Thought to have articulation and/or phonological disorders determines whether children can distinguish sound units that they cannot produce auditory-visually through picture recognition. It looks at distinguishing between picture pairs and sound unit and which sound unit is mixed with it. The child is expected to match the sound he/she hears through the picture.

Phonological Analysis Subtest

The sound units produced by the children are expected to be used in accordance with the phonological rules of the language in speech (conversation). There are pictures of 13 different themes in the test. The child is expected to explain the picture shown.
