Fibroids Cause Groin Pain and Heavy Menstrual Bleeding in Women

Myoma is seen in 1 in every 3 women in Turkey. Myomas, which show different symptoms depending on where they are located in the abdomen, not only disrupt the menstrual cycle and cause severe groin pain, but also constitute one of the obstacles to getting pregnant.

Benign tumors originating from the uterine wall are called myomas. It causes different complaints depending on its location in the uterus. . Depending on the area where it is located, its size and number, it causes sporadic bleeding and prolonged periods. It causes anemia due to intense bleeding and causes symptoms such as weakness and fatigue. It can cause complaints such as kidney pain by putting pressure on the urinary tract, frequent going to the toilet by putting pressure on the bladder, and constipation by putting pressure on the intestines. It most commonly causes heavy bleeding, palpable masses, and pain in the groin area.

Another consequence is not being able to get pregnant. It causes infertility by blocking the cervix, preventing the sperm from entering, closing the uterine cavity, preventing the baby from settling, and pressing the tubes, preventing the sperm from meeting the egg.

Although the possibility of pregnancy varies depending on the location of the myoma, in women who become pregnant despite the myoma, myomas do not affect the development of the baby, but as the uterus grows, the possibility of the myoma growing increases. Accordingly, the uterus may not be able to expand itself for the child and may cause premature birth. For this reason, it is recommended to remove the myoma in patients who want to have children, depending on the size and location of the myoma, to ensure a comfortable and trouble-free pregnancy.

A problem caused by fibroids during pregnancy is serious pain. During pregnancy, groin pain occurs due to excessive growth of myoma. It is not recommended to remove myomas surgically during pregnancy. It increases the risk of miscarriage.

Myomas are generally benign tumors. Although very rare, they can turn into malignant tumors called sarcomas, that is, cancers. This risk increases with age. If there is a myoma that tends to grow after menopause, cancer should be suspected and surgery should be performed.
