ENGINEERED WISDOM TEETH

Situations Requiring Extraction of Wisdom Teeth:

Infection of the Soft Tissue Covering the Tooth: This condition, also called pericoronitis, can be defined as the infection of the soft tissues surrounding the visible part of the tooth in half-erupted teeth. This infection, which develops in soft tissues, causes pain and the pain increases with chewing. If not treated at this stage, swelling in the relevant area, difficulty in swallowing and limitation in opening the mouth may accompany the pain. The gum in the relevant area of the mouth is swollen and very sensitive. With a slight contact, inflammatory discharge appears underneath. The lymph nodes under the lower jaw are enlarged and sensitive when touched.

Occurrence of Gum Diseases: The impacted wisdom tooth weakens the bone support of the adjacent tooth and may cause food residue accumulation in that area.

Occurrence of Tooth Decay: Half-erupted wisdom teeth may cause food accumulation between them and the adjacent tooth, resulting in tooth decay.

Occurrence of Cysts and Tumors: When the impacted tooth remains completely inside the bone, During the growth phase, the surrounding sac remains with it. A cystic formation or tumor may develop from this sac called a follicle. Occurrence of pain of unknown cause: Most of the time, patients apply to the physician with the complaint of pain in the wisdom tooth area for no apparent reason. If the patient does not have a cause related to the lower jaw joint, removing the impacted tooth there may make the pain complaint disappear.

Jaw Fracture: Impacted teeth create a weak line in the jaw bone due to the place they occupy in the jaw. If that area of the jawbone is exposed to trauma, a fracture may occur along this line.

Orthodontic Reasons: After orthodontic treatment is completed, wisdom teeth may cause the aligned teeth to become crowded again. That's why orthodontists usually want wisdom teeth to be removed after treatment. In addition, sometimes orthodontists may recommend the extraction of wisdom teeth when they want to move the first molars backwards so that they do not cause any obstacles.
