What is circumcision?

Circumcision is the name given to the surgical removal of the skin covering the glans penis to expose the head of the penis. Although it can be applied for medical reasons as in European societies, it is mostly applied for religious or cultural reasons in Islamic and Jewish societies.

What is newborn circumcision?

The first 28 days after birth Neonatal circumcision, which is the name given to circumcision performed during the day, can be preferred because it is less painful due to the incomplete development of the newborn's pain pathways, can be performed with local anesthesia, is less traumatic and heals faster. However, the small size of the penis during these months and the inability to detect some congenital anomalies can make circumcision performed these days troublesome.

When and How Should Circumcision Be Performed?

Circumcision Although it is seen as a simple procedure, it can have serious consequences when performed in sloppy or inexperienced centers. Infection, bleeding, over or under removal of the foreskin, injury to the head of the penis, bridges formed on the skin and narrowing of the penile tip are some of these complications.

Circumcision; It is performed under local or general anesthesia by surgeons with professional competence and experience, after providing appropriate anesthesia.

Since the child is at the stage of sexual identity development, circumcision is not recommended between the ages of 2-6. During this period, the child recognizes the genitals and it is thought that circumcision performed during this period may adversely affect the child's mental development.

Therefore, circumcision should be postponed unless there is another medical indication in this period.

Another point I would like to point out is that circumcision is prohibited by non-physician persons in accordance with the laws of our country!!!

Congratulations to all families and wish them a smooth circumcision process...
