The id wants it, does the superego prevent it? Or does the id require it and the ego balances it?
Actually, when we look back at our lives, don't we have desires that we postponed and inner voices that we silenced? Of course, every person may have some periods when they postpone or suppress their desires in order to act in accordance with social consciousness and not to stand out from the group. For example, a person may want to have fun like crazy at the age of 65, but if the cultural environment in which that person grew up did not create the appropriate environment for this, the 'social consciousness' or 'social norm' formed in the person will not allow this, and therefore this desire of the person whose super ego will be active will be immediately suppressed. However, some people realize that they have wishes that are contrary to social consciousness, but they may not want to postpone their wishes, and this is also a choice. Therefore, isn't who we actually are or how we shape our lives under the influence of social consciousness, to a greater or lesser extent? Could it be that the social norms of the cultural environment to which individuals belong determine their lives? Why do most of us have to finish school within certain time periods? Why does society attach different labels to individuals who are over a certain age and unmarried? Why does society expect individuals over a certain age to have active working lives? Why does society expect married individuals to have children? Then he expects a sibling for that child? Perhaps all these expectations develop in an environment that develops depending on social consciousness and therefore takes different forms in different societies. Erich Fromm said, "As we suck the mother's milk, we also absorb the characteristics of society." That's a very true statement, don't you think? Our desires, our moral values, our actions, our behaviors, our reactions, our impulses, our roles, our goals, our goals, our dreams... aren't most of these influenced by the consciousness of the society in which we grow up? Or do these affect social consciousness? Could social consciousness be taking a different form now? We can now say that this is an interactive process. For example ; baby shower parties. While there was no such 'celebration' in our society until 30 years ago, people have now started to turn it into a 'tradition' and therefore it has gradually become a part of our social consciousness. has begun to gain a foothold. Therefore, the individual is affected by society, and society is affected by the individual. And human beings are a mosaic of mixtures of these... Each individual contains some stereotypical thoughts and behaviors brought by the society he lives in. Some people may want to go beyond these patterns of society with their free thinking skills and individuality. Some people can harmonize these patterns with their own personality and continue their lives. Since people are organisms that are open to change and transformation, they may want to be outside these patterns in some periods of their lives and be completely within these patterns in other periods. Because the behavior of 'homo sapiens' is programmed to protect themselves and survive. People can act in line with their wishes and desires. If these behaviors are in line with the consciousness of the society, individuals can continue their lives without thinking much about this behavior; If this behavior leads to a result that is contrary to the consciousness of the society, that the society will not accept and that will take him/her out of the group, the individual tries to prove this behavior to himself with logical explanations in order to avoid cognitive inconsistency, to see himself as right and to maintain his sense of belonging. People and the mentality of the society in which they grow up are of great importance in the lives of individuals. Individuals continue their lives by creating a 'social unconscious' belonging to the society they belong to...
