Teeth that have not fully erupted into the oral cavity within the expected developmental period and are not expected to erupt in the future are defined as 'impacted teeth'. Therefore, diagnosis of impaction requires a proper understanding of the factors that influence the potential for eruption along with the usual chronology of the eruption.
There are generally four options that can be applied to impacted teeth:
1- Observation: Observation begins with the completion of the eruption of the milk teeth and ends with the eruption or withdrawal of the last impacted tooth.
2-Interceptive treatment: It is the maintenance of the tooth with orthodontic methods and the extraction of the milk tooth above the impacted tooth.
3-Reconstruction. Positioning (Relocation): Repositioning is giving a new position to the impacted tooth within the alveolar bone surgically and/or orthodontically.
4-Extraction
Piezosurgery device is used to remove impacted teeth in oral and maxillofacial surgery. It is used for exposure or surgical extraction, root separation and removal procedures, endodontic surgery, periodontal surgery, bone window opening for sinus lifting, sinus lifting procedures. Since the use of the Piezosurgery device is completely different from other traditional devices, it is very important to gain sufficient skills and it may take some time to learn its use.
Since there is a close relationship between bones and soft tissues in oral and maxillofacial surgery, the use of piezosurgery is indicated in all conditions where surgical trauma to adjacent tissues must be minimized.
