Filling Treatment Purpose of Conservative Dental Treatment
It is to clean the dental caries and fill the resulting gap with an artificial filling material. Today, tooth decay is defined as a disease that occurs in dental tissues due to more than one reason.
Factors of Dental Decay;
- Bacterial plaque
- Structural factors (Structure of teeth, composition of saliva, etc.)
- Carbohydrate foods (Sugar, flour, etc.)
- Time (Duration time of food in the mouth)
Bacterial plaque formed by bacteria in the mouth can create acids from the residues of sugary and floury foods left in the mouth. These acids dissolve the mineral tissue of the tooth. and destroys the enamel of the tooth, causing the formation of cavities on the tooth, which we call cavities.
Diagnosis and Diagnostic Methods
Tooth decay occurs on the chewing surface of the tooth, where the teeth come into contact with each other. It may occur at the interfaces or neck areas of the teeth. Browning or cavities on visible surfaces are easy to detect. However, x-ray diagnosis is also necessary for caries that have not produced these symptoms.
When the decay that starts in the enamel tissue of the tooth is not treated, it progresses to the dentin tissue. Dentin is a structure that dissolves more easily than enamel, and therefore caries progression is faster. If a caries has reached the dentin tissue, the patient may have hot, cold, sour and sweet sensitivity as a result of a factor. This pain goes away when the cause is eliminated.
If the pain has become constant, the decay has progressed to the pulp layer of the tooth where the vascular-nerve package is collected and root canal treatment is required.
Treatment Methods Composite Filling
It is a plastic mixture containing silicon dioxide particles. It is unnoticeable on the tooth with various color options and is also called aesthetic-white filling. The material, which was once used only for front teeth, has been strengthened with various methods and made suitable for back teeth as well. The filling material placed in the tooth using a special bonding agent is hardened with a light device and polished in the same session.
Porcelain Filling
Porcelain Filling Measurements are taken from the cavity prepared with the fillings and sent to the laboratory. When the patient comes to the next session, the polished porcelain filling is glued to the cavity. Amalgam Filling
It is formed by mixing silver, tin and copper alloy with mercury at the rate of 45-50%. After the cavity is cleared of decay and filled with amalgam filling material, it is recommended that that area not be used for two hours and not chewed on anything hard for 24 hours. After 24 hours, the well-hardened filling is polished.
