Ordinary work tempo of an ordinary day in hospitals, courthouses and schools
''We will replace 302/1 with 305/3'''After the bat, the bone will come'' "Today we have a disc and a frontal abscess." ''blue glasses, come here''

Works, powers….
Patients that need to be examined quickly, shots that need to be completed quickly, surgeries that need to be completed without any problems, programs that need to be completed, scores that need to be achieved, rules that need to be followed, crimes that need to be proven, hearings that need to be completed, penalties that need to be delivered, deliveries that need to be made, repairs that need to be completed, orders that need to be fulfilled.
Larger buildings, more technical equipment, more systematic work areas, high-tech devices, electronic systems, advanced materials, created to meet these. smart applications, consultancy units, electronic guidance, advanced communication channels, mobile applications.
Employees who are in a hurry to keep up with this pace….
It is no different from the computer ordered, the machine to be repaired, the package to be transported, just like Institutions overflowing with people who have become objects like materials in industry...
Hospitals, courthouses, schools...
We have applied many times in one way or another as patients, relatives, defendants, plaintiffs, students and parents. Experiences in these institutions that are felt with the same intensity even after years have passed, that affect our decisions, orientations, expectations, trust-distrust, and leave permanent traces...
These experiences are sometimes warm moments of closeness that make us feel understood, valuable and safe.
He bent down and looked into his eyes with compassion at a woman who had been trying to give birth to the dead baby in her womb for days, but was exhausted from both the pain inside and the insensitivity outside. It is the support and trust felt by a healthcare worker who looks inside and says, "I know it is very difficult, but let's try one more time." "Ma'am" and leaving the courtroom and when asked, "I didn't understand wrong, I know I lost the case. Every time I came to the hearing, the judge asked me, "Do you have any other evidence or documents?" She examined all the documents, listened to what I said so kindly and sincerely that I trusted both her and her decision, it means I was wrong, I will not appeal, my daughter." .
The warmth of a valuable teacher, as a young man coming from the village to the city for the first time, shyly enters the classroom with his bright white skin, his skin darkened in the sun, and his lumberjack shirt, among the children wearing blue shirts, gray trousers, dark blue jackets and black ties. It is the line that changes with the moments of rapprochement: 'A little later, the English Teacher "Yasemin Çevik Hodja", with a smiling face, a sincere smile, her eyes moist with compassion, her gaze sending signals of mercy, her naive and delicate appearance, entered the door and said hello, children. I guess that the entire class was as impressed and happy as I was by such a positive start. He came to me shortly after my clothing and color were a little different. He quickly understood the situation. On that day and at that moment, I experienced a scene that I will never forget. He caressed my head with his compassionate hands. He said to me, “Don't worry; I will help you with everything. You will also continue school. "Come to me no matter what kind of trouble you have," she said. This elixir of his behavior and words from life entered my body, which was like dry wood, and revived it, turning it into a living tree; His compassionate and merciful gaze brought my soul, which had escaped from its home, back to my body and engraved the art of "taking care", which is the most important lesson of humanity, on my soul, which is like the seed of my tree of life. His subtle touch at that moment turned my dark and enigmatic mind into light, just like darkness turns into light when the electricity switch is touched. It gave me serious strength and power and I started by saying "Bismillah" (Quoted from Prof. Dr. Behçet Al's teacher's day post). p>
Sometimes, these experiences are moments of loneliness that cannot be understood, that make one feel worthless and insecure.
A healthcare worker who tries to explain to her husband how advanced his husband's illness is, somehow cannot find the appropriate sentences and behaviors, and cannot express that person's sadness. These are the moments of loneliness in which the pain is created due to the inability to alleviate pain and perhaps added to it by a clumsy word or behavior that one does without realizing it.
The questions asked by a woman who is trying to seek her rights in the corridors of the courthouse because she has been treated unfairly, to get information about the progress of her case. It is the insecurity created by the feelings of incomprehension and worthlessness made with the sentences 'it will come to your address', 'if you are very curious, you can come here tomorrow and ask', 'you are done, go away', 'next action'.
New to boarding school These are the moments of anxiety, insecurity and loneliness that a careless and careless school employee makes a mother feel when she comes to a parent-teacher meeting of her daughter, who is only 15-16 years old, with the words "You have a lot to do with this child, may God help you" among other parents.
One of the most important triggers of these moments of loneliness is that employees who are equipped with more technical knowledge and skills in order to serve more people, faster and with more modern methods, have to face the emotional burden of that experience, even if they know well what to do. They do not know what to say and how to say it, that is, they are not equipped enough for skillful communication.
Perhaps the reason why this skillful communication remains in the background is the sensitivity that existed within us before the intensive vocational training process, the weight and intensity of technical processes over time.
Although technical knowledge and skillful communication are necessary in every field of life and in every institution, why are the effects of some experiences in courthouses, hospitals and schools felt so intensely and leaving such permanent traces?
From the moment of birth, human beings turn to someone who is smarter and stronger than themselves in difficult times, and they reach a feeling of security when their needs are understood and met by this person. and can continue his life where he left off and establish new relationships. This system, defined as the Attachment System by Bowlby, is activated when needed and becomes inactive again when the needs are met and felt safe. This situation can be explained with an example such as a thermostat increasing its temperature until it reaches a certain temperature, not continuing heating when the required temperature is reached, and becoming active again when the temperature drops. Just as the temperature of the thermostat drops, the attachment system comes into play in difficult times when people need understanding, trust and support the most, and becomes inactive again after their needs are met by being able to express their needs by making them feel understood and safe.
While life goes on in its normal course. The anxiety and need to be safe when moving to a different environment, such as an emerging disease, an injustice suffered, or starting a new school, activates the attachment system. Therefore, unlike other institutions, the need for individuals who apply to hospitals, schools and courthouses to be understood, valued, and to feel safe and in safe hands is at the highest level. Of course, skilled employees who know their job well are required to regain health, ensure justice and development. However, technical knowledge and skill alone are not sufficient to calm the attachment system that is activated with strain. Competent employees must be attentive, attentive, understanding, and have skillful communication that creates trust through warm moments of rapprochement. When these needs are not met, the attachment system either becomes more and more active than necessary to meet this need, or, on the contrary, it reduces its activity and does not come into play even when necessary, and does not ask for help or wait for help even if it is needed. If we explain it with the thermostat example; The thermostat either causes an unnecessary increase in temperature, or the thermostat does not increase the temperature even when the ambient temperature decreases.
In people whose connection needs are not met in institutions related to health, justice and education, this system either becomes overactive or is not required. It does not come into play in such situations. A. The most typical examples of the problems caused by overactive attachment needs are: individuals repeatedly apply to other similar institutions with similar content, causing a blockage in the system, and making the functioning of institutions difficult by complaining. On the other hand, problems such as the thermostat stopping heating when it can no longer reach the required temperature, the individual no longer expressing his needs when his needs cannot be met, and as a result, not being able to receive the necessary help and support; Even if he has a health-related problem, he ignores his problem and does not apply to hospitals, or even if he is treated unfairly, he does not reach a judicial institution to seek his rights, or his interest in classes decreases while he is at school and as a result, there is a disruption in his education.
On the other hand, when skillful communication is taken into consideration while developing technical knowledge and skills, the mutually felt warm feelings will be good for both the employees and those who demand service.
What about the needs of the employees in these institutions? What will happen to their need to be understood, valued, and to feel safe, which are activated under the pressure of time and performance in the ever-increasing work tempo?
Of course, their problems will be solved both technically and carefully by managers and system founders. They need managers and administrators who will be heard, understood, rescued from their feelings of loneliness and insecurity, and make them feel that they will be safe now and in the future.
