The semester break is a good time for children to spend productive time with their families, to share together
, to rest and to store plenty of energy for the next semester.
At the same time, this holiday can be considered as a good opportunity for students to repeat and
reinforce the knowledge and skills they have learned at school during the term, without getting bored. For this, we recommend that you plan your time well and make a program that includes different activities that will support your child's development. Below
You can find the activities we recommend for you to spend your holiday more productively with your child:
To support their cognitive development;
• Make number cookiestogether. You can practice recognizing, matching and lining up numbers with the cookies you bake.
• Play the sock matching game. Thus, you support both visual perception and fine motor skills.
• Play the guessing game. Prepare a fruit plate for your child. Close your child's eyes. Have him guess what the fruits you give him are based on their smell and taste. You can play this game in different ways. For example, guessing spices by smell, etc. like. It is important to exercise the five sense organs while supporting children's development. Especially among the sensory organs, supporting the sense of smell can generally be kept in the background. That's why such activities may seem different and fun to your child.
• You can also play the guessing game to support the sense of touch. You can put various toys in a bag and ask him to guess what it is just by touching it with his eyes closed.
To support psychomotor development;
To support gross motor skills;
• You can encourage your child to start a new sport such as skiing, skating or ice skating that will improve his gross motor skills. Thus, you can improve physical coordination.
To support fine motor skills;
• Put chickpeas, beans and green lentils in the same bowl and ask your child to put these ingredients into different bowls with his hand.
• Pour shaving foam, salt or bulgur into a tray. You can try writing numbers and drawing shapes on it.
• You can stick the craft papers to the wall or the floor and practice writing numbers and drawing shapes. Many homes have a blackboard and children practice writing numbers and drawing shapes on the board. However, since changing the ground attracts children's attention, this practice can make working more fun, especially for reluctant children.
• You can print potatoes with watercolor.
To support social emotional development;
• You can attend semester events planned for children in art museums. Entering a new environment and participating in activities there contributes to social development.
• Visit historical places and museums in Istanbul. For example; Such as Dolmabahçe Palace, Topkapı Palace, Beylerbeyi Palace, Hagia Sophia Museum, Basilica Cistern, etc.
• You can play board games that will support social development.
• If possible, have them meet with their friends and do an activity together. For example, you can go to the cinema with your friends.
• You can have him take a different transportation vehicle such as metro, tram or vapor. So you can chat about public transport rules. For example; such as not speaking loudly, queuing while boarding, etc.
• In order to support children's emotional development, it is necessary to first enrich their vocabulary related to emotions. For this, you can read a book to your child.
• You can create emotion cards or buy them ready-made, play games with the cards and chat about them. You can make emotion dominoes yourself or buy them ready-made.
To support language development
• You can attend creative reading workshops at art centres. For example; Such as Yapı Kredi Culture and Arts Publishing, Aksanat and İşsanat etc.
• You can interrupt a storybook you just bought and finish the story completely. You can ask for the rating.
• You can go to the theater together. You can ask him to tell you about the game you watched. If it is difficult, just asking questions about the game will be enough.
• You can play board games together. To support language development, you can get the games "We Are Us" and "Less Chat, Lots of Communication".
Finally, children's entire routine changes during vacation time. For example, bedtimes, meal times, etc. Being flexible and not insisting on the continuation of the normal routine during this period when they will not go to school will allow children to rest and have fun. For example, during this period, children may want to watch more television and play computer games because they spend longer at home. It is perfectly normal for them to exceed their school time, provided that they set limits. Suggesting to do an activity when the time you set is over reduces the possibility of conflict with him/her. By taking advantage of the activities that can be done at home suggested in this newsletter, you can spend your time more efficiently with your child and support his/her development.
