Toy Selection

Toy Selection

As a continuation of last week's“Child and Play”article, this week's “Toy Selection” I wanted to write an article about. All play materials that bring order to the child's movements, help in their mental, physical and psycho-social development, and develop their imagination and creative abilities can be defined as toys. In other words, a toy is both the game and the object that enables the game. Toys, which also develop the child's sense of choice and evaluation, enable the child to make decisions on his own and gain skills in a certain field.

Various classifications have been made regarding play materials. According to one of these classifications, play materials can be considered in five main groups:

The first group of materials helps the child get to know the outside world around him and gain experience. However, in order to achieve this, the child should be given the opportunity to capture and explore all the objects within his or her reach. The most important of these are water, sand, soil, mud and paints.

The second group of materials are mud, paint and chalk, which stimulate the child's creative ability and desire for self-management.

The third group is games. Materials are dolls, baby clothes and animals that stimulate the child's imagination.

The fourth group of materials are model toys such as brushes, brooms and small household items that help the child acquire adult skills.

The fifth group. The materials are gymnastics equipment and construction toys, which directly help the development of the child's physical and mental abilities.

There are some principles that parents should pay attention to when buying toys for the child. These can be listed as follows:

They are of a type that can be used safely by children; therefore, metal parts that have paint peeling off, have sharp corners, are sharp, flammable, easily breakable, and easily shattered by items made of glass or plastic. It would be appropriate not to purchase toys containing these materials for children.

Flexibility plays a very important role in interchangeable and interchangeable play materials. r. With the help of flexibility, children can create many different designs, and their attention will not be distracted very quickly while playing.

Play materials made of different materials provide the child with the opportunity to experience different substances.

Toys help the child explore the external environment. Care should be taken to ensure that the toys are (water, sand, soil, clay and paints, etc.).

The toys should be of a quality that encourages creative activities (sand, paint and chalks, etc.). )is important. Play material should be a tool that develops the child's imagination, enables him to prove himself and discover his creativity.

Toys are also expected to stimulate the imagination (dolls, various dresses, small animals, etc.) . The games of young children are largely based on their imagination

With imagination, the child can develop many different games from a toy, and also turns many things into toys, thanks to that power. Especially recently, talking, sleeping, crying babies, wind-up or automatic toys (which hinder children's practical work and push them into passivity) hinder and narrow children's abundance of ideas and inventions. The monotonous movements and conversations of these toys prevent many roles that the imagination can assign to them.

The colors, illustrations and design of the play material should help the child develop aesthetic values.

The play suggested by the play material. The activity should be appropriate to the child's understanding, coordination, ability and experience at that age and developmental level.

The child should play with age-appropriate game material, and the parent should help the child, especially when playing with educational game material.

When the child reaches the maturity to make a choice, he should be allowed to choose his toy, but in such an approach there is always the possibility that the child may not be able to choose the appropriate toy. In this case, it is extremely useful for the parent to provide informative information about the features of other toys.
