How is Detailed Ultrasound Done?

Instead of the term Detailed Ultrasound or 2nd Level Ultrasound, it is often used as 3-Dimensional, 4-Dimensional Ultrasound, Color Ultrasound, etc. Terms such as are used. The main reason for this is that families can see their babies more clearly with 4-D ultrasound.

Detailed ultrasound is usually performed at the 18-23rd week of pregnancy. Although it can be done between weeks and weeks, if necessary, it can also be done at different times of pregnancy, knowing its limitations (for example, in the first trimester, etc.). The reason why this period is preferred is that fetal organ development and evaluating these structures with ultrasound are optimal within this gestational week.

The main purpose of this examination is to scan the fetus for some anomalies and markers of chromosomal diseases that can be detected by ultrasound while in the womb.

The structures we evaluated in this examination include:

In the presence of some anomalies or markers detected, advanced genetic tests can be performed and more detailed information is tried to be given to the family about the baby's condition. With the information available, the follow-up plan for the rest of the pregnancy is determined.

The point that should not be forgotten is that detailed ultrasound does not have 100% power to detect all diseases or genetic problems in the womb, and that it is only a screening test for such anomalies.
