What is turbinate?
'Conchae' are structures in the nose, three or sometimes four in each nose, that regulate nasal breathing by swelling and descending. When the veins fill with blood, these structures swell and shrink when the veins shrink.
They have useful functions such as humidifying and directing the air passing through the nose, nasal reflexes, resting the receptors in the nose, and resting the lungs by allowing them to work alternately. .
When Do They Cause Problems?
Turbinates, which have normal structure and function, only cause obstruction on that side when they swell when there is a curvature in the walls that separate the inside of the nose. This phenomenon can only be corrected by correcting the nasal wall
.
What are the structural disorders?
They may be larger or smaller than normal. Polyps may form on them, and in rare cases, tumors and some chronic diseases, their tissue and therefore structure may deteriorate.
What are their functional disorders? These structures, which inflate and deflate at regular intervals throughout the day, are popularly known as 'nasal flesh'. With some diseases, they grow or their functions are disrupted and they swell more than normal and disturb the person. If structural disorders occur at certain periods and can be corrected with medication
, drug treatment can be applied.
If they have shown persistent dysfunction or have reached an irreversible structure that cannot be reduced with medication
, surgery, laser, Shaver or final treatment can be applied. They are reduced in size with the Radiofrequency method
which has been used frequently in recent years.
You will undergo a nose operation
even though there is no external skin incision, much swelling or discomfort.
Therefore, , you will need to take the necessary precautions.
The most common problem in the middle turbinate is swelling of the inside of the meat with air. This is called concha bullosa.
It may cause postnasal drip. If it is too large, it may also cause nasal congestion. Its treatment is to surgically remove its outer half
. In noses with polyps, sometimes some of the turbinates may also be polyp. In this case
it is necessary to remove the polypated parts.
