Self-Confidence in Children

As parents, we all want our children to be able to raise their hands in class, ask the teacher if they do not understand, and express their thoughts. This situation is related to the concept we call "Self-Confidence".

Self-confidence means "the value a person places on himself". One of the indicators showing high self-confidence can be considered as the level of tolerance towards criticism and frustration. An individual with high self-confidence approaches criticism and restrictions more calmly, constructively and positively.

Sometimes, a child may describe himself with positive expressions, see himself as stronger and smarter than he actually is, and overreact to external criticism. For this reason, a child who behaves with a high self-confidence image may have low self-confidence.

Self-confidence begins to take shape at a very early age with the child's innate biological characteristics (temperament, intelligence, physical characteristics, etc.) and environmental influences. The first foundations of self-confidence are laid with the relationship established with the mother from the moment of birth. From this perspective, the relationships established within the family are very valuable for the development of self-confidence. After parents, teachers and peers have the biggest impact on a child's self-confidence.

Self-confidence development is a complex process that varies from child to child. For this reason, it is important to know the child well in order to develop self-confidence. Self-confidence is a phenomenon that can be constantly improved.
