Meniscus Tears & Mouse Disease

Menisci are structures that are a combination of soft tissue and cartilage tissue similar to the crescent shape found in the knee joint. There are two in the knee joint, inner and outer.

Meniscus has very important functions in the knee joint. Joint harmony, load transmission, ensuring joint stability and protecting cartilage are important functions. Meniscus injuries often occur in cases of sudden rotation and bending while putting weight on the knee.
Meniscus tears can be detected by examination, MRI imaging and arthroscopy.
Meniscus tears cause pain, swelling, limitation of movement in the knee, It may cause complaints of chattering and locking. Its treatment is divided into two as conservative (medication and physical therapy application)and surgical.
Surgical treatment is performed as closed methods (arthroscopic). In appropriate cases, the tear is repaired. In inappropriate cases, the torn meniscus is partially removed.

Mouse Disease

In parallel with the development of technology, diseases begin to change and increase with the electronic devices entering our daily lives. . While technology makes our lives easier, time planning and faster communication, it also causes mental and physical diseases.

Orthopedics and Traumatology Specialist Op. Dr. Harun Kütahya also drew attention to the diseases caused by the keyboard and mouse that we use frequently in our work and daily lives.

Do you have pain, numbness or numbness in your hands and wrists?

Do these complaints become so severe that they wake you up, especially at night?

Op. Dr. Harun Kütahya, if your answer to these questions is 'yes', you should be careful and have 'carpal tunnel' syndrome, which is common in people who frequently use the keyboard and mouse and if not treated, restricts daily life considerably. Stating that carpal tunnel syndrome is seen in approximately one in 100 people, Harun Kütahya reminded that carpal tunnel syndrome is more common in women than men and gave information about this syndrome.

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Carpal tunnel The nerve we call the Median nerve passes in a canal extending from the inner surface of the wrist towards the palm. The median nerve provides sensation to the thumb, index, middle and half of the ring finger and the palm. Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the nerve is compressed due to the pressure applied on the nerve. Pain and numbness occur after nerve compression. Complaints may occur in all or some fingers. As the disease increases, complaints increase and pain occurs, especially at night.

Who Gets Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Numbness, pain, numbness in the fingers and desk jobs. If you work with a keyboard and mouse, you may have mouse disease.

The possibility of contracting Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, which is nerve compression in the wrist and palm, is more common in those who work in front of the computer. Working with the wrist constantly bent downwards causes this. Carpal tunnel syndrome is more common in people who do housework, knitters, musicians and those who use their hands for heavy work, due to keyboard-mouse use and direct pressure.

Ergonomic Mice Can Prevent Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Pain and numbness can progress insidiously. For this reason, consulting a doctor when symptoms begin may change the type of treatment. While treatment is possible using medication and various wristbands as a result of early diagnosis, in case of advanced treatment, carpal tunnel release is performed. Postoperatively, the patient's complaints show a dramatically rapid improvement. The patient returns to daily life in approximately 1 week.

Carpal tunnel syndrome can be prevented by using ergonomic mice suitable for the structure of the hand.

The Mouse Destroys the Texture of the Finger

The other condition of mouse disease is the formation of a callus-like hard and painful tissue on the 5th finger side of the wrist when the hand is constantly leaning on the table while using the mouse. To prevent this disease from occurring, using padded mouse pads is sufficient. Treatment requires removal of hard and painful tissue.
