Fluoride applications
Fluoride should be applied to reduce the incidence of tooth decay in children. Flour makes the enamel layer of the tooth into which it is incorporated extremely resistant to caries formation. Fluoride is an element that prevents tooth decay and strengthens the structure of teeth. Fluoride is found in toothpastes as well as in some foods. However, because children often neglect to brush their teeth, they do not receive enough fluoride to help their teeth become resistant to decay. To compensate for this situation, topical fluoride applications are made. Superficial fluoride applications are a simple, painless procedure that can be started from the age of 3 and should be repeated every 6 months. It is ideal for the child's first encounter with the Dentist and for check-ups every 6 months.
Fissure sealants
The chewing surfaces of the teeth are indented. These pits and hills are called pits and fissures. These areas are quite narrow and are often the places where caries start due to the stuck food and not being able to be cleaned. A special flowable filling material is used to prevent the accumulation of food and microorganisms in these areas and, accordingly, caries. The period when the first permanent teeth emerge in the mouth is ideal for application. This is around 6 years old. It is also applied to other molars when they erupt. An important point is that permanent teeth begin to erupt shortly after they begin to erupt. It would be better to have NRA done (within 1-2 years). Because as time increases, the possibility of decay increases and it may be necessary to fill instead of fissure sealant. Although it can also be applied to adults without cavities, its use is more useful and important in children. It is an absolutely painless and very easy procedure.
Space maintainers
Movable or fixed appliances made to preserve the places of milk teeth that have been lost prematurely for any reason are called space maintainers. . Early loss of primary teeth causes functional and aesthetic problems as well as some developmental problems. Milk teeth guide the permanent teeth that will erupt. If they are lost prematurely, the permanent teeth will erupt randomly and crookedness will occur. For this reason, development and caries development should be closely monitored in primary school children in the mixed dentition period, without neglecting periodic checks. It is treated with filling. In some cases, the tooth is too damaged to be treated with a filling. Instead of being extracted, such teeth can sometimes be kept in the mouth for a while by covering them with caps specially prepared for children. In recent years, colorful fillings have been produced to make children love the dentist and going to the dentist.
