Psychiatry Specialist Asst.Prof.Dr. Onur Okan Demirci said, "This addiction can be psychological or physical. Spiritual addiction is getting used to using a pleasurable stimulus, desiring it, and experiencing tension and anxiety when it is not available. Physical addiction, in contrast to spiritual addiction, is the state of attachment to the stimulus. In the absence of the stimulus, the body trembles and sweats." "There are physical changes such as vomiting, convulsions," he said.
Asst.Prof.Dr. Demirci listed the symptoms of an individual being addicted to substances according to the criteria of DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders):
"Having developed tolerance to the addicted substance within the last year, showing withdrawal symptoms." and taking the addicted substance or similar to get rid of it, Using the substance in higher doses than expected and for longer periods, Being in a constant effort to get rid of or control the substance use, Spending too much time finding the substance, using it and getting rid of its effects, Socializing due to using the substance ", decreasing or abandoning professional and leisure activities, continuing to use substances despite the presence of physical or psychological problems due to the substance used."
